Sam's the same...she often wonders about the quality of my online companions ;)

My second-to-last armour kit purchase arrived yesterday: an Airfix 1/76 Bren Gun Carrier w/6pdr gun (to be whiffed as "Bullpup", my Tank Destroyer from the game World Of Tanks) and an Italeri 1/72 Sherman (to be done as one on museum display in NZ).

I also received my replacement clear sprue for the big Mosquito, needed after an accident with ClearFix and a painted internal part.
With warm regards from Whanganui, New Zealand

You should look at the Plastic Soldier Company range Zac, they are aimed at Warhammers but are decent kits and come in multiples, which give you lots of options.

Just make sure you get the scale you want though, because they come in 15mm wargame scale (about 1/100th) and 1/72nd, in near identical boxes for similar prices, the difference being that you generally get three 1/72nd tanks in a box whereas you get five 15mm ones.

They do some impressive stuff: http://theplasticsoldiercompany.co.uk/

Well, Bourbon (Wild Turkey) and ebay really should not be allowed in the same room as each other. Today arrived a UPC..? 1/72nd scale Mig-21. Not seen anything by these before, no date or anything on the box/instructions as to when it was made, or where. The descriptions on the instructions are very comical, and overly optimistic on the aircraft's performance. It is a mig-21 C apparently. Loads of flash and a canopy that looks like it used to be as magnifying glass.
Should be good fodder for the razor saw though
I have just read up on this kit, and it says, it is a high quality kit made from Hasegawa molds.Still not too sure of the country of origin as the description of the thing on the instructions suggest Chinese, and the translator was on Meth. not bad for a fiver though.
Chris.

From the Big H.

Kinetic 1/72 F-16I Sufa (Now where is that Monogram F-16XL?)

Montex mask set for the Special Hobby Gnat F1 X2. An interesting set as it gives canopy masks for two aircraft plus an extra windscreen mask, but only enough wheel masks for one model. That is why I needed two sets.

A 1:72 Premier Shorts Tucano turned up with the postman yesterday. I was sceptical, because the whole kit bears a disturbing sytle proximity to the rather crappy PM Model/Pioneer 2 kits, but it's a nice kit with good detail (not overwhelming, but on par with better Matchbox kits, but without trenches). There are even pilot figures included. Thinking about giving it the NATO Green/Lichen Green livery from the RAF Harrier GR.5s (and my Cheetah build), and/or turn it into a single seater as a small air force COIN version.

Chris.

After the usual WW2 suspects (spit, bf109 etc) the MiG 21 must be in the running for the most kitted aircraft.
Raised detail or engraved?

According to the 'Big Book', Pioneer, Pioneer 2 and Premier were logos used by MHW to sell their kits. The book says PM Model "provided" kits to MHW for the Pioneer 2 and Premier brands

Yup picked up their A-9 Cruiser at Southern. They give you the option for the standard 2pdr armed tank and the CS version. Plus with or without sand skirts.

The detail on this kit is raised, and another thing I noticed is that it is the same as the Academy offering dating back to 1985, except the Academy one doesn't have raised detail and raised red stars on the wings and tail. Apart from that the sprue layout is identical.
Chris.

According to oldmodelkits.com the UPC kit is a rebox of the Hasegawa Mig-21, so it would make sense that the Academy
kit would look like a copy, a lot of Academy's earlier kits are copies of other peoples products.  ;D

UPC never made any of their own kits, they were always a reboxer from a variety of sources, most of the line came out in the
mid to late '60s and they were gone by the early '70s.

So I had better be careful when I carve it up then, being such an old kit  I too read that info on oldmodelkits.com, and also on a forum somewhere.

If it is the same kit as the Academy one, then carving up is all it's good for. It's significantly overscale, but the fuselage is too short and fat to an almost comical degree.
