Yeah, I've seen that before, and it looks nice. Trouble is, reworking that wide round front fuselage to take a skinny little Merlin would be quite a task.

Another idea I had was to re-engine it with one of the Hercules from the Beaufighter, it's a perfect fit. But 1) I can't bring myself to waste an entire Beau just to swipe an engine, and 2) doubling the horsepower just might cause that near-vertical windscreen to peel off, and fold the wings back against the fuselage.  ;D

The Perseus XII of the Skua II was in the 900hp range and the Hercules available in period were around 1,380hp,
so while you wouldn't double the power, you would double the weight.  ;D

Extend the cowling slightly and claim it has a 14-cylinder Taurus II (1,060hp) like the Albacore I and original Beaufort?

Dang! Beat me to it! SWMBO had a wee list of things to do and I'm late to the parade.

Surely you can scratch up something to look like a different radial ?

Rockets, lots of rockets! Just fire one off when you need some extra push!

Are you going to replace the engine? IIRC the Skua was under powered.
Looking forward to this one!

Might be rethinking the whole thing, because it's already been done by our very own kitbasher.  :banghead: Well, there are always rockets...

You just crack on and do your thing, Mr Rat, would love to see your take on the Skua.

Go for it!

Okay, rockets it is. And that isn't as easy as I thought. I was going to use the RP3 rockets from a few sources, until research discovered that they weren't developed until well after the timeline established in the rules. The Z Battery rockets were in use, and could probably be modified into an air-launched variant (at least in my universe), but that will take some chopping and hacking on tiny little bits of polystyrene.

Time to dig out the magnifiers...

A good Merlin engine would solve many problems........
and rockets too.......    ;D

Don't forget the Defiant turret!

;D

Which would make it a Merlin engined Roc.  ;)

...or a maritime Defiant?  ;)

Looking forward to what becomes of this one, since I have something similar in the pipeline.

Crappy cel-phone pic. Paint scheme is different than normal, of course. Because 'what if?', and MFM!

Looks cool and so different from my Skua on floats... intersting to see how different minds interprete similar subjects!

BTW, is this PRU Blue?

Tamiya Medium Blue XF-18. I originally bought it for painting pilot figures, it seemed to be a good match for an RAF uniform. Then I got the urge to just cover an entire aircraft with it.
