Hi,

I am looking for a Decal set by Vingtor, set VTH72110 which is out of production and out of stock  :banghead:

I am also looking for one or passably two Airfix P.1127 kits.

Reasonable price paid for either.

You're not going to believe this.
Just last week at the Expo Swamp & Smell I was rummaging through a box of the old bagged Airfix kits.  $10 each.  There were at least 2 P.1127s in there.
Of course I didn't buy them.  That would be too coincidental.
Good luck.

They're normally as rare as hen's teeth, I've not seen one for a sensible price (less than £20) for years. There was one trader at Telford wanted £75 for one!!!!  :o

Doesn't one of the resin 'garage' manufacturers do one? Maybe Heritage......

Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

I am actually following a couple on ebay, some are going for silly money but I look at several search options to find the cheapest. THought I would try the members here first though.

Aint that always the way?  I nearly bought one to use for parts but the same seller had an Airfix GR3 for $5 so I got that instead.

Buzzbomb might know the seller or be able to find out his name & contact details.  They must keep records of who had the tables at the swap & sell.  It was the first or second table on the left as you walked in the door.

Thank you Runway, Airfix is what I specified in my posting as I know that the Heritage kits are like Curates Eggs, good in places......

The Heritage Kestrel is pretty good, I have one, but it's a big job to convert one back to an 1127.

Actually, after reading an article in the Air-Britain Aeromilitaria magazine, one of the last prototype P.1127's was very close to the six Kestrals that were built

Those are the important words. Hawker's were changing the design as they went, but that's what prototypes are for anyway. The Airfix kit is/was the last gestation of the first prototype IIRC.

I think that is exactly correct. Depicting a P.1127 is like trying to hit a moving target while blindfolded as the were research aircraft that changed as the research progressed. For late P.1127 and for a Kestrel or two I intend to kitbash an Airfix P.1127 and the old Airfix first generation Harrier.

I think that is why I see the Kestrel referred to as an P.1127 sometimes, but in reality they're not. They're more a pre-production development of it, which is closer to the Harrier development

Most of the six P.1127s had a full delta wing, but they changed it to a more swept shape for the Kestrels and Harriers. IIRC the last of the development P.1127s had the Kestrel wing too, but I can't find my Roy Braybrook book with all the details in it.  :banghead:

The wing changed during the second batch of P1127's and a picture I have recently seen of a Kestrel shows Hawker P1127 on its nose which does not help identification of what is which  :banghead:

Thanks to Runway for supplying an Airfix P1127  It will likely end up as an XV-12  ;D

Still looking for the decals though so if anyone comes across a set on-line let me know, if at a show, grab them and I will pay you back.

Captain Canada

I didn't even know that the kit existed ! Now I want one as well. Maybe Airfix could release them again with all the interest their new Harriers kits have brought up.
