London to New York via a Soviet Russian proposed interncontinental highway.  Make for one helluva road trip.  And I wonder how tags, insurance, moving violations, and licenses would work for that...

Get the Chinese to build it. That road running through Africa looked incredible on (Not So) Top Gear. I know I'm alone here but I always preferred May and Hamster...I've met too many Clarksons over the years to be too keen.

bst quote i read was the "uk section will not be ready for 20 years after the rest of the build and at 4 times the cost of the rest of the road combined"

Honestly, it's the honest ones you have to watch out for!!!

Why do I suspect the first and most likely to be built part is between Berlin and Moscow? It only really needs upgrading to a full-blown 4 lane highway and it'd be more realistic to build a High-Speed Railway  ;)

Beyond Moscow to the Bering Strait is mostly dirt tracks and forest. The highway from Alaska down thru Canada to the USA main is only just a sealed roadway which freezes over 5 months a year.

And there are no roads out to Nome, which is another obstacle

Yup when I was in Alaska I was quite surprised that there were roads that went into the interior and then stopped. Didn't expect that in the US for some reason. Expected a highway down the length of the coast or interior.

One US Customs post on the Canadian border we came across had a video camera for when unmanned. Notice said "When unmanned please stand behind the yellow line and wait to be photographed. Once done you may enter the United States" I assume if they didn't like the look of you they trawled the towns bars and then threw you out  ;D
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Perma frost is the biggest problem. Far enough north and you build on ice and have a road for most of the year.

Ice Road Trucker and Bush Truckers could be used. Those back roads in Australia seem impossible and yet they get through!

On a similar vein, apparently a company is putting out feelers on a trans-Atlantic ferry service.  How do I know this?  I got a survey in my email from the Family Motor Coaching Assoc., a national caravaning group, asking about it.  It'd definitely make my showing up at Telford interesting

Caravaning never tried that. Just add that to my "bucket list".
