Well, there's two models for the scrap heap

Maybe my proclivity for procrastination has worked to my advantage, finally. A few years ago I started two projects that have been overtaken by the resurgence of Airfix. One was the conversion of their old, and horrid, Defiant, into a turretless Australian tankbuster, using the cannon pods from a Hurricane IIb. The other was hacking the ancient Hawk Supermarine Swift into a Royal Navy attack fighter, complete with folding wings.

Having seen reports on the new offerings, my wallet will be a bit lighter, but my nerves will be calmer.  ;D

Yep - funnily enough, I have a half-Finnished* Defiant sat in a box upstairs too, because even though it's not relevant to the conversion, I couldn't live with the undersized engine. The good news is that the bits will probably transfer straight over to one of the new-tools.

*Nope, not a typo..... ;)

Not "scrap heap", rather "bone yard", where the pieces will be salvaged and become bigger and better things.

I have a very similar problem, I have 4 'old mould' Hawker Typhoon's in the stash (+ FROF/NOVO 'car-door variants) , 2 'old mould' Tiger Moths, 5 'old mould' Gnats, 2 'old mould' Defiants and 5 Testors/Hawk (+ Pegasus, Magna and Xtrakit ones) And I am loathe to get rid of any of them! It seems absurd though to struggle with a difficult to assemble model that will not produce as accurate a model anyway. I probably will dispose of some over time, but I bet I end up building most of them!
Oh to be whiffing again :-(

Weaver

Uh-huh: I have a couple of nasty old FROG Gannets on hand which I intended to whiff. Then the lovely Revell kit came out, but I thought no, it's too nice to hack about, then they got discounted to less than I paid for the FROG ones few years previously.... :banghead: :banghead:

Not a dead loss though: parts of the FROG ones are now available for more silly/extreme projects....

Or you could sell them on an online auction site as "vintage" and make enough money to buy the better kits.

Captain Canada

You might as well finish them as 'proof of concept' models

Easiest way to do the Defiant would be to build it 'as is', with the back story being "What if the Boulton Paul Defiant had been designed by 1950s Airfix emplyees?"   ;D

Good to know if I decide to tough it out some day! Got a company link?

That'll be here :- http://www.valiant-wings.co.uk/

OGL's Defiant nose isn't filed under 'Resin Accessories' however, but under 'Valiant Model Wings'.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Ah, I see. But then there's the cockpit, which according to the plans I measured it against is about 3mm too far to the rear (noticeable in 1/72nd), and that incorrect vertical stabiliser. I've sandwiched some plastic card between the two halves of that, cut to the correct profile, and I was going to build it up with putty. But every time I look at it I shudder and reach for a drink.

The Defiant nose also comes with instructions on how to sort out the rudder as well.
