There's an article on Hyperscale showing some fantastic mid-30's USN experimental camouflage.  No pics survive, but some watercolour diagrams have.

Thanks to my mate Phil (some of the UK guys would have met him at Huddersfield recentley) for bringing this to my attention.  Happy accident, I first thought he was talking about the Barclay camouflage, which he didn't know about so we both learnt something new!

Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

IMHO, it's not THAT bad or weird. Some ideas look plausible, and they follow cammo fashion of the era, e .g. dazzle schemes or geometric figures. The colors can be debated, but AFAIK some bright tones and contrast were also common sense. Just look at German Lozenge schemes... those USN designs are not "worse".

Yep - and, most ironically, the Barclay stuff turned out to be very ineffective...

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.
