Syrian La-17 Flossy
« on: November 01, 2013, 08:30:13 pm »
Developed from the La-15, the La-17 was comparable to the Mig-17 in performance. It did not receive the same wide spread use as the Mig. A number of these were sold to foreign operators including several Mideastern nations including Syria and Libya.

The kit is the Maquette La-176 which was developed as a supersonic followup to the La-15. Only one was built and used for testing.  I initially thought about building the real world version, but the amount of effort it would take to make it look good with a natural metal finish was not worth it.  So I decided on a WHIFF. It was built out of the box,  except for the pylons, bombs, and tanks.

I like the cam job.  Yes, the extensive use of natural metal deters me from building my large number of Soviet aircraft kits as well.  Just haven't found the best technique yet to achieve the right finish.  Everyone I've tried just doesn't turn out right for me.  :(

Cool build.  This one was a loser with the VVS. It was probably a loser with the Syrian Air Force. Easily converted to a smoking hole, c/o you know who?. Adios, Larry.

Very nice, very convincing.  Will get the JMNs guessing, that's for sure.

The shoulder wing improves its looks no end over those of the Mig15 to my mind, and it's beautifully finished off Ed, nice one!
Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage

That is one lovwely little build. I've always liked Lavochkin and that speaks for itself. The colour dcheme is pretty good as well.

Well done Ed, ugly and pretty at the same- in a good way!

Especially like the underside paint and lines.

Always liked those early La jets and you've taken the La-176 beautifully into Whifville. Looks great.

I am late to comment on this - VERY nice idea, I love the cammo livery on that one.

Reminds me that I have a Cooperative La-15 somewhere in my stash. Maybe something in Vitenamese colors...
