I'd forgotten that build, sorry, and it's a dead ringer for the Mk 1 Weymouth with the fixed gear. 
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Interesting comment about the engines being "too close to the crew". I wonder how he'd feel about the F-107 or the myriad of helicopters that have their engines in similar positions...

The F-107's engine was in the same place as that on the F-100, quite a way to the rear of the pilot.

Only the intake was above his head.
