I have guestimated the clearance inbetween the props and I might be wrong so I have some `cropped` C-130 props just in case.

That sounds a bit rough and ready, may I suggest an alternative method which you may not need if the spacing is large enough..... Move the inner engines forward by adding discs to the front of the engine mounts on the wing until the propellers are clear of each other. This way is easy to make and also means you can use the propellers that came in the kits rather than having to use something that could easily look out of place.

The engines are actually inside the wing, the DB610 being a pair of DB605s coupled at the gearbox and driving an extension shaft.  What appears to be the engine is actually the radiator.

You'll need another pair of oil coolers between the two nacelles - that's what the scoop outboard of the outer engines is.

I'd still add an extension aft of the wings.  You may not get it seamless, but if you went for the dark schemes adopted by the He 177s units during operation Steinbock in late '43/early '44, it may hide it.

just for a giggle - take your short fusilage and short wings - clap a couple of jumo 004 on it and you might have a blitz bomber - stop laughing

you would have to think about the undercart

but back to your big bomber - you could increase the distance between the 2 nacelles by take another section from your short wing - make the new section a bit deeper ? (distance between the leading edge and trailing edge) using plasticard - should be simple - would make the wing a bit longer which would be super

i am a bit of a rough and ready converter myself - so chin up and keep bashing away

How about adding the jet engines under the wing roots?

Can't - you'd foul the landing gear, flaps and the bomb doors.

Podded and outboard of the outer engines are the best way.

Excellent stuff.....!!!! I prefer the prodded jets outboard of the propeller engines....I had thought about an Amerika bomber but based on a Ju290 kit I've recently acquired...was gonna just add 262 engines outboard of the outer engines.....a/c to be based in South America....anyhoo....can't wait to see how this finishes and what scheme you go for......

I'd still like a Ju 390 - especially in KG 200 markings for Kammler's escape flight - I've a Contrail one somewhere but rough doesn't begin to describe it.

Speaking of South America...  Somewhere on Google Earth, there's a shot of a jungle somewhere down there with what is apparently a Ju 290 in it.

Well, after a good long think and taking in everyone's view`s, I think I will have to go with option 2 and the under mid-wing pods.

I really really wanted to fit them to the fuselage somewhere, but the options were very limited. Placed anywhere forward of the wing leading edge the jet exhaust gasses would probably get in the way of the props and vise versa if you placed them anywhere behind the leading edge.

Most of the designs I`ve looked at involving jet engines attached to the fuselage were `pure` jet designs anyway which probably tells us it`s own story.

Started work on the cockpit so hope to post some wip pics shortly.

Thanks for all the input chaps and as for colour scheme, no idea at present.

I forgot to mention in my earlier post that I liked option 2. Looks about right for the era to me.

Now, off to try and find that photo...thanks Wooksta! Like I didn't have anything better to do.....

Quoted from elsewhere but it'll give you a location to start looking:

"Witkowski then refers to previously classified report by a Polish diplomat who witnessed a Junker 390 being dismantled in May 1945 at an airfield on a German ranch along a road east from Paysandu city towards Rivera, near the village of "19 de Abril" in Paysandu Province, Uruguay. Local folklore has it that parts of the aircraft were cut up and dumped in the Rio Uruguay."

I like option 2 and concur with the idea of spacing the inner props if you are using the kit ones.  If not it might be worth looking for props with a shorter diameter but greater number of blades.

The jet engines under the wings just looks more "military" to me.  Mind you practicality was not always a strong point in late war German projects.  It seems that they just had to be big!

Now, how about the offensive weapon?  Are you going to construct a really nasty looking German A-Bomb, radiological (dirty) bomb or cruise missile?

Display it as a diorama with the nasty bomb/missile on its trailer being brought up under escort or on a bombed out runway with some senior Nazi party officials boarding for a final flight to some undisclosed destination.

Cheers for the comments. ;)   I had envisaged `big` bombs, although I`m not sure I want them to be Atomic in nature as this would not fall within nature of the GB. Have to give that more thought yet.

So...., nearly finished on a very `cluttered` cockpit section. (I should of gone to Specsavers.......)  ;D
