Curtiss Sparrowhawk I
« on: November 12, 2010, 02:31:43 pm »
Based on the Pegasus P-40Q, I've assumed the P-40Q entered production instead of the P-51D and was known as the Sparrowhawk in RAF and Commonwealth service.

Ah, in that case I HAVE seen it, and darn good it is too!

That P-40Q makes a great startiung point for really ace models.

Pegasus P-40Q (straight from the box) as Curtiss Sparrowhawk I KM163, AK-H, 213 Sqn RAF, Italy 1945 (Kits at War sheet K7/9).
The P-40Q was developed instead of the P-51D and entered RAF service as the Curtiss Sparrowhawk I.  The real KM163 was a Mustang IV (North American P-51D) that served as AK-H of 213 Sqn.

Looker!

I've looked thoughfully at that kit a few times, but temptation has been resisted so far.....

You know, Weaver, it really was a delight to build.  Total of 5 on the SIG stand at SMW and they all looked lovely.

I think would be Sparrowhawk II. But the look is great like the Spit MK 22 or 24.

I've always like the Q model P-40, and this is a very nice build-up. I will say I was expecting something
a little different though-wasn't "Sparrowhawk" the designation for the biplanes carried by the Carrier
 Airships Akron and Macon?

It  certainly was, but the only thing the two Sparrowhawks have in common is their name!  ;D

The airship version was nowhere near as sleek looking as kitbasher's version.

Neat. Such a long, straight nose on the Q.

A P-40Q in 8th Air Force markings with invasion stripes, nose art and a kill scorboard under the cockpit would be pretty cool too.
Whatever.
