New Whif Project - Focke Wulf 129
« on: October 29, 2010, 07:26:43 am »
Combine Fw 189 wings, tail, etc. with Henschel 129 cropped fuselage and use the radial nome rhone engines.  Pics to follow.

Now have pics.  She's coming along nicely.  The Nome-Rhone engines have mated much better than I could have anticipated.  Also note the wing roots of the 129 fuse vs. the 189 wings.  Almost perfect match.  Just add a bit of epoxy putty to fill in the gap.

Looks rather similar to the Fw189C.   Thought of a rear gunner's position?

Naaa, no rear gunner.  Hs 129 didn't have a gunner, so I opted out for this one.  Besides, the read center fuse is full with the MG 151 cannons and ammo (see bulges).

Yes as you know is not too far of the real modification the german made. The BMW engine of the Hs 129 was really used in the Fw 189, they are french Gnome Rnhone 14N and exist at least one version with the cockpit similar to the HS129, for this reason Your plane seems as logical and natural. Really is a wonderfull plane, one of the most nice version I ever seen over the Fw189.

"Nacelle" for the Rear?
« Reply #12 on: November 05, 2010, 09:51:08 am »
I like this project.

The only thing that seems "unreal" is the rear of the fuselage. The "squared off" rear would create wind eddies that would seriously upset the tailplanes and cause a lot of "flutter". Any possibility of obtaining an engine nacelle, or "nose piece" that could fit, or be made to fit, at the rear to smooth out the airflow? I realize the shape might be really hard to match, but SOMEONE out here might have a "boxy" piece that tapers appropriately--maybe a BV-141* rear glass painted "solid"??

*looking at the Bv-141 in my display case, I think it might be PERFECT, as the front end is indeed boxy, and the rear tapers like a wasp abdomen.
My mind is like a compost heap: both "fertile" and "rotten"!
