Martokker D.XV
« on: February 28, 2010, 06:05:03 am »
My story with the Marton X/V started in 2004, thanks to Narses2 (http://www.whatifmodelers.com/index.php/topic,4080.0.html ), well concerning twin-boom push-pull peculiar machines, I have both a Marton RS 1/72 kit and a Fokker D.XXIII Pegasus 1/72 kit,. The Marton has been marvelously built by Stlava_Trudu (see http://www.whatifmodelers.com/index.php/topic,24457.0.html ), and the D.XXIII by PR19Kit (http://www.whatifmodelers.com/index.php/topic,26648.15.html ), far better than I could have ever done. Well, I will not build them also as “in service”, nor in USAF or RAF colours: I have not room enough for them. I prefer a deeper craziness, the project of mine is a mix of both, the Martokker D.XV: a twin-pod twin-boom glider…
(the RS thermoformed canopy frightens me a little, but I will see).

to draw the 2 possible ways for my project, I needed dimensions. For the D.XXIII it was available everywhere on the Web, for the X/V I found it only in the kit instruction paper. So:
DXXIII Span x length : 11.5m x 10.2m, X/V : 11.8 x 10.2m

So, here are the 2 tiny-span ways I consider  . Which one would you chose?

PS. (They are gliders, not airplanes with propellers to keep distant)

A!

It's by far the silliest........
Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage

I think "A"
and wouldn't it be much better than a glider if it had four engines?
The British have raised their security level from "Miffed" to "Peeved". Soon though, security levels may be raised yet again to "Irritated" or even "A Bit Cross". Londoners have not been "A Bit Cross" since the Blitz in 1940 when tea supplies ran out for three weeks

Well, I may consider letting two propellers, the one of the D.XXIII side, for many good reasons:
- this adds assymetry which I love
- the XXIII propellers/spinners are single parts (white metal) more easy to keep than to separate
- I prefer clean glider lines than complicated engine-propeller lines, and I prefer the X/V lines than the XXIII lines, so I may have a pleasant glider beautiful side, the rest being ugly, I like this difference a lot!
- I discard propellers to stand on the shelf without undercarriage, but the XXIII spinners are high and that is possible
So thanks a lot for this suggestion.

So the score of the match is: A 3 - B zero, so this will be a T-tail... ;D

Here are the white-metal spinners-propellers that I will send to PR19_Kit. No need for him to send him his ones, I consider a putty-improved glider nose at last. ;D

T-Tail!  T-Tail!   There's something about this I really like.  The pods remind me of Star Wars something-or-others.

Mind if I borrow some of the elements of your line dwg, Tophe?

Thanks JHM, I am glad ;D this heresy of mine is not insulting "how a balanced T-tail plane should be" >:(. Feel free to use the drawings if you need, these are public posts.
