I recently got my hands on a revell LHA Tarawa marked down due to a smushed box at the local AC Moore Craft store it states a 1/720 scale it comes with 6 rather crude aircraft for the deck I want to get some better ones but 1/700 is all I can seem to find.My Q is this in such a small scale is the 20 scale inch per inch difference really matter??? How noticeable is the difference? I would really like to spiff up this Clunker of a kit Thanks

Damn all.......

At that scale a Harrier's wing span differs by 0.3 mm from 1/700 to 1/720 scale.

Of course building something so WILDLY inaccurate would make you JMN fodder for sure..... :)
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

The difference in the aircraft is by and large not very big.  Even on a ship, it's not all that big, and unless you truely point it out, most might not notice at all.

The old Tarawa class by Revell is handy as it has the LCU's where as the Dragon kit in 1/700 has LCAC (Also kitted by Revell to make life difficult !!!)

comparing the two you would notice the slight difference in size, but also the more clunky look to the older revell kit.

Yea I noticed the clunky details on many parts so I'm looking into accessories to add to spruce up the details.I built one when it first came out it's a fun and easy kit to build, nothing nasty in the way of tricks hiding in the kit.It is just quite lacking in the detail department. My plans for it include an armament upgrade new aircraft and antennas WEM seems to have plenty of aircraft to choose from, maybe some OV-10 Broncos they wouldnt need a cat launch or major arresting gear to operate from the ship and Ospreys along with the traditional Super Stallions,Hueys,Sea Knights,Super Cobras and Harriers

For extra aircraft, you can also look at Pit Road's line of 1/700 aircraft sets - they have Ospreys, and others, in their sets.  They also have modern equipment sets if you want to add other bits and bobs to the boat to trick it out a little more.
