On Monday 10 December the BBC 1 documentary on "Monarchy at Work" featured for a brief moment a model of a Merlin in royal colours during an interview with the Head of the Royal Travel Unit.

The model appeared to be a standard 1:48 manufacturer's model finished in all over maroon with som gold markings and unusual yellow rotor blades.

Did anyone catch this?  It would seem to offer a genuine what-if finish for the Merlin.

That's neat.....I suppose there are all sotts of neat ways to do a Royal Merlin. Sounds like somebody ought to build one !

Yes I spotted that one as well.  it had a gold/yellow strip along the length of the aircraft at a significantly nose down angle.

If its good enough for the US president, and made in the UK, why not?

Hmm sounds good.  Unfortunatley it'll remain a whiff for the time being, the Sikorsky S-76C+'s of the Royal Household are being replaced by upgraded versions of the same aircraft, the S-76++ (bet it took a degree in a Marketing to work that name out!).  The Royal helicopters are on the civil register & are no longer part of the RAF's Royal Flight.

So who's going to do it???
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.
