A few weeks ago I had this really off the wall thought: A Ta-154 air racer.  I went right out and bought the Dragon Ta-154/Fw-190 Mistel kit (unfortunately, a few days later I saw a Pro Modeler version of the kit at a considerably lesser price. Damn). Anyway, I started it immediately (much to the consternation of all the other kits in the queue). Contrary to some reports, the kit appears to be the same as the Pro Modeler kit. I had to add a brass spar because if I didn't the wing would appear to have a number of degrees of anhedral. Fortunately, once you get past that, the fit is pretty good. As of right now it's nearly ready for primer. I was going to use the engines from a Hobbycraft Sea Fury but the diameter of the engine is way too large so I'm go stay with the kit engines. The color scheme will be inspired by by the Sea Fury racer, Miss Merced. Lots of yellow. With flames.

Yep....just three days ago.   Checked the LHS for a Trumpy Seahawk, it wasn't in stock so it got ordered from one of the excellent online purveyors with the purpose of making a fake Seahawk prototype that was just close enough to reality to make someone do a double take.

Boom!  Ordered!

Later posted the idea was posted down below on this forum.

Boom! Checking validity of idea!  Things look good.

And then JCF shows a picture of what I had in mind.....it was real to begin with.
:o      :o
(screeching of big bus brakes heard in distance...gotta let brain catch up)

Now what to do with the Seahawk?   I *think* the plan will be to prodeed per original plan as it was more surprise than dismay.  The Seahawk is rather fine in my book.

Maybe I'd just better go and do an Airfix Hurricane Mk.I with cloth wings, spatted fixed gear, a twin blade Aeroclub prop, and landing lights faired into some old-car headlights..........or slather the Eduard Bf-110C in corrugations, fabric, with open cockpit simply to annoy elsewhere.....

Terry that is an awesome idea.   Hopefully this year I can make Seattle's show(s).

Oh Yeah!

Sort of a cross between a Junkers K 37/Mitsubishi Ki 2...

and a Junkers A 48/K 47 in appearance?

Yup, happens to me all the time. I get that great idea, and if I don't start it right then, it just goes away. A thick notepad helps keep the ideas around, but the motivation is gone.

It happens every time but compulsion has to

a) wait until enough data is available (ten years or so for my mascot Papin-Rouilly jetcopter)

B) wait for a slot in the modelstories building schedule (and obviously between the latest Tamiya review and an obscure conversion based on a Heller kit as old as myself you can guess which wins?)

Achhh!  I was thinking EXACTLY that same idea with the Ta-154 I just posted on the on-yer-bench section.  That's why it's so darn orange!

It's a killer idea.  I was thinking "Nazis in Nevada" or some other clever titles. . .

I wanna see it, just so I can feel dumb for not following through with mine!

I'm the same way. I've got probably 10 started that I either have stashed or in the case of my favorite five, a rotating on and off the workbench.

Every kit I've got in my "half start" drawer at home is due to my impatiences. The number is at 10 IIRC & not going down anytime soon (the 'Nam era F-8, RoCAF F-20A & a soon to be started bastardized Swiss M-IIICS).

I know the feeling too well, after a bit of a slump and several false starts on more than a few projects I ran across a picture that has totally inspired me to try something a bit different.

I really like the main Cruiser in this pic but the others are cool as well. I can't get to the hobby store until this weekend but I am so going to be there first thing Saturday morning to look for suitible donor kits for this project!

Well, I've had a plan to do a Do-335 Reno racer for some time now - maybe they'd make a good pair?

Blackops - that image gave me too many ideas!   B)  :D

Of course, the problem with firing big guns on a flying ship is conservation of momentum. Water-bourne ships have a much denser fluid to absorb recoil.
But then again, maybe they're railguns. After all, if they have flying ships, they're probably way past powder-propelled projectiles.

I've suffered the "oo, new idea!" problem more than once, leaving a number of half-finished models in favor of the lastest crazy idea to cross my brain.
