What Couldn't You Whiff?

Hi folks,

We've had discussions about favourite kits, and those you couldn't care less for etc.  but  is there a kit or particular subject you simply couldn't bring yourself to whiff?

For me I think it would be the Catalina - I have always really liked this aircraft and just don't think I could ever whiff one.  What about you?

Regards,

Greg

I don't know. I whiff everything that is in sight in my stash. I still haven't found the kit that wants to be assembled like it is....

I agree with Lee (apart from the unnatural hatred of the Mighty 'Toom     ).  There are cetain things I dont build just because I'm not that interested in the subject (biplanes, interwar, most WWII Luft, etc) but I would have no problem whiffing any kit.

I am more likely do do major surgery on a cheaper/less detailed kit, but that is simply because my own skills would mean there was a glaring contrast between the kit detail (say on a Hase 1/48 A-4 or F-104) and my own addtiions.

I would happily whif a very detailed, very expensive kit such as the big Trumpeter F-100, but it would probably just end up wearing Roos or Leaves instead of having a second engine added.
So I got that going for me...which is nice....

I fully back these sentiments.  Chopping a cheap or rubbish kit somehow doesn't seem a waste, and what's the point of 'what if' building anyway?  To have a bit of fun, get the imagination going and not to be constrained by the thoughts of hacking £30's worth of kit and accessories.  Also culls the bulging spares box!

What wouldn't I whiff?  I'd like to say a Spit but I've got 2 1/72 Whiff-fires on the go, a third to follow (idea is there, not started yet - based on the Airfix IXc), and another that is nearly done which is kind of Spit-inspired.  So nothing I guess, so long the end product is either a feasible 'what if' or it's so funny all is forgiven!

For a long time I culdn't have brought myself to WHIF a TSR2. Then Airfix brought out a proper kit of one!

It's not an effing  jump jet.

I've seen a few kits that I couldn't afford, but none that I wouldn't whif !

There are quite a few kits that I would like to build or even rebuild. Trouble is limitations of space and time let alone expense. As now 1:48 is my chosen scale, limitations of space is a prime consideration, and when I consider the amount of time consumed by projects such as the fantasy Me262+2x109, which isn`t even a `real` Luft 46 subject (? does that make sense), I can foresee my attention gradually returning to my 109 collection and Luft oddball subjects.

When it comes to aircraft in 1/72 & 1/144, everything is fair game for whiffing. Granted, I've sent some really beautiful kits (like the Eduard DH-2 with all the bells and whistles) off to better homes because I couldn't bring myself to savage them.

Excluding spurious paint schemes....the Fokker Dr.1.   Everything I've tried spoils the lines abominably.    To my mind's eye, this one is forever locked in a world of *as is*.    No floats, no skis, no wing mods, no fuse mods,....it's just complete.

Interesting subject.

Pretty sure I could whiff anything but there are some planes I want to build multiples of before I get to whiffing them.  Examples are F-16, Mig-21, F-5, Islander, etc.  I love small nations and want to build models of planes flown by every country (or as many as I can get).
That said, there have been some great profiles out there for the F-16 and as soon as I catch up, look out.

Depends on how extreme the whif is, alot of WW2 planes I couldn't bring myself to alter apart from colour schemes. Even then I'd rather stay historically accurate alot of the time.

Come to think of it I usually whif colour schemes & history anyway. Modern subjects are easier for to alter.

gooberliberation

I'd only think twice if the kit is something rare or ungodily expensive. If I am under the impression that I could easily get another one and do it "properly," then no regrets.

For myself, anything goes, funds & availability depending, natch.  But there's a bucket load of real-world stuff that I'd love to knock up just as much.  That said, there are those that just will never be real world regardless of what the model companies think (ie Trump's F-107).
