Hiya All
As mentioned in the Seeadler WIP here is an idea I`m playing with.

Now I`m due for an op` this weekend thats going to put me off my feet for around 2 months (doctors round here really do break your legs) and I`m hopeing for something to pass the time. The idea is for you to help decide the final shape etc of this Luft 46 whif, and when the majority agree I`ll try and build it.
Quite how this is going to work I`m not sure of, maybe print it-alter the sketch and rescan? do another sketch or just tell me and I`ll try and redraw as best I can, as you can see I`m no great artist.
The only restrictions are as follows:-
must be Luft 46
must use period technology engines weapons etc. Time frame 1945-1955
NO UNDERCARRIGE wheels in fairings (imagine the A10`s wing wheels when retracted)(this should keep BdB happy)
Well the balls in your court,

That looks very scifi, like a miniature Klingon BOP.

First off, let me wish you all the best for a speedy recovery, Gary!

I really like your design. That "Klingon Bird of Prey" wing is cool and totally fits with the Luft '46 style you want. I'm not so sure about the goose neck you've got though. It's be interesting to see it a main fuselage pod like a P-38. Another idea would be a totally clear nose like on a B-29. I really like the landing gear as it is. I think this bird would look great with some under-wing stores.

Wow I'm impressed. You actually sketch these out before you build them! That idea never ocurred to me. :dum:

Klingon BOP is the first thing that came to mind on seeing your sketch.  It appears that I am not alone in this observation.  You may have to create some Klingon roundels for this thing and find a Mr. Worf figure in the right scale to stand next to it.  Hey, if they can have Wookies flying Messerschmidts, why not Klingons?

Brian, you missed the part about spats...

Heyo All
Seems we have some trekkies here. 5 outa 5 go KlingyBOP. The BOP influence is fairly obvious in this design as shown but it was the only way I could think of to get a wheel to touch ground.
Maybe if I turn the design upside down and the lower engine flattened into a tail. This would also solve the problem with FOD in that large lower airscoop/intake. Hmm interestink, very interestink. :D
Brian     Sometimes you find two or more pieces of plastic that just need to be glued together and your of on the next build, other times I doodle, but generally it`s Head Outta Gestalt hands on autopilot

Heyo Agin
Heres some more ideas on paper

DbyC/2 is just thoughts. Doodles on outlines and shape changes.
DbyC/3 is a partially worked out design moving the cockpit nearer the engines and moving the upper engine outward.
DbyC/4 Is I think a more elegant and simpler solution. Having a scoop for the top wing and the side intakes for the lower engine and this is probably the way to go keeping the high wing with outrigger wheels ala the Harrier.  More detailed sketch to follow. Any thoughts on imput for this design, it may be your only chance for me to take notice of your comments :D

Your first idea reminds me more of a He-219 crossed with a Romulan Warbird:

I agree that your second design is probably more practicle though.

The one side view of #2 reminds me of Cobb's drawings for the Nostromo:

You're in good company.  :D

Heyo Agin`s

Funny, all my design`s seem to look like spaceships to you. My first real attempts at scratchbuilds were all of SiFri stuff when Star Wars hit the screens and Luke Warmwater bravely fought the dark side of the farce.
Anyways here is a work up of D.by.C 4

I`d like to keep the wing shape of D.by.C 3 & 4 if possible.
This is all Eddies fault! someone said of his Spitfire cubed " A British Lightning" or words to that effect and my mind went English Electric not P38 and double decker engines. I`m basically a prop person with a main interest in Messerschmitt designs (if you havn`t guessed) and some 1st generation jets, but the EE Lightning has always been a favourite since I saw one go vertical soon after rotate and suck all the newly mown grass up with it at an airshow many years ago.
Anyways back to the present. This is prob my last chance on the `puter till next weekend when I`ll be back after having my legs broke.
Keep your imput and ideas coming in the meantime.

Actually, the first design does also have passing resemblence to the Henschel P.87 - maybe you could have it as a related jet development of this design?

Hi Greg
On the first sketch at top right is a list of influences and listed there are Hs P.75, Arados 210-215, He219 Harrier etc. But I guess your right it does have more in line with the Henschel 87 than the 75

EDIT for Arado read Blom & Voss

these `borrowed` from luft`46

With one more engine, and some canting to the wings, this would qualify as a decent rendering of the K-wing bomber depicted in Michael P. Kube-McDowell's "Black Fleet Crisis" trilogy.  I've seen three different depictions of that craft, including one in the latest "Guide to Vehicles and Vessels", and none of them resembles the author's notes so much as that sketch.

From the author's Black Fleet Crisis FAQ:

Quote- As befits a close-in assault platform, the K-wing is heavily armored and shielded. The airframe is specifically engineered to withstand extremely high wing loadings and provide maximum protection to the crew and avionics systems.
- Viewed head-on, the K-wing resembles a capital K lying on its face--a single center fuselage, two medium straight wings above, two short angled wings below (ending in landing skids). Just outboard of the fuselage on the straight wings are two of the three primary thrust engines; the third is further aft in the fuselage, on the centerline, and has vectored-thrust nozzles. The third engine's vectored thrust allows for non-ballistic translations during attack runs, increasing survivability.
The four wings have a total of 18 hard points (10 up, 8 down) to which a variety of ordnance packages can be attached. The wings are swept and staggered, with the upper wings set further back than the lower to provide drop clearance. The total weapons payload of a K-wing exceeds that of any other starfighter by a substantial margin, and is the equal of the larger TIE bomber. In some load-out configurations, not all 18 hard points can be used.
- The K-wing has a two-man crew (pilot and weapons specialist).

I realize this has got to be horrible for you - first Star Trek, and now Star Wars, but I can only respond to what I see (or think I see).

Not at all, with the Aliens reference I`m obviously in fine company. The trouble with designing somthing new is that often it isn`t. My subconciuos absorbs so much that I am not aware of, that often when I draw, paint or build etc only to have someone say "that looks like.............." as here I`m not surprised.
For many years I built silent friction stuff for a friend who then made amateur films but has since turned pro, and stayed away from the cinema so as not to be influenced by the latest prop.
Unless you can lock yourself away in a box nothing is new!. Everything around you influences the way you think. Therefore If people see something else in what I create then I`m not surprised especially when I`m deliberately using other input such as the henschel and b&v designs. The idea of allowing other people to influence the final outcome was so intresting that probably I would never have started this otherwise.
So keep the input coming, like Johhny 5 "Input, I need input"

EdiQuick thought while waiting for taxi....on last sketch move top engine forward and between cockpit and lower engine will probably help cg
