Well here's the obligatory box shot.

Not much progress - busy Bank Holiday (BBQ/Charity Quiz) but the beauty of retirement is that I have most of next week after monday to work on this. Working on my VTOL build's as well at the same time.

Hmmm, so not French then, but whom??

Then there was an airframe

It's a real treat to see someone building this venerable aircraft! You've really piqued my interest, Narses! I can't wait to see where youo go with it!

The camo is started. Only problem is that the only French colous I have are White Ensign. Very ggod but enamel so take time to dry - and I choose a 4 colour scheme for a one week build  :banghead:

I've used the darker of the French greys and the brown rather then the maroon.

Right she's finished.

The build revolves around my 30's Cold War scenario. In 1939 the Cold War reaches one of it's quite regular "warm" periods with increasing Red pressure in the West invoving masive Red Army manouvers to distract the West's attention from a flare up on the Russo/Japanese front in the Far East of Siberia, one of the rare area's of regular conflict in this scenario. With increasing Red activity the Czech's realise they require an interim fighter until their indigenous Avia 135's come on stream.

As a stop gap they receive 30 ex Armee de Air Ms 406's which are being replaced by D.520's in French service. These Czech Ms 406's serve for some 18 months and at the end of that time are returned to France

Model is the Hasegawa kit with markings taken from the spares box - if memory serves combination of KP Mig 17 and a Hasegawa Gruman Panther

I used White Ensign enamels on this, simply because they have the required French colours in their ange. I'd reecomend these to anybody wo needs authentic French/Italian/Russian colours in particular

I enjoyed this build although the use of enamels increased the "stress" levels a tad   Also got me moving on some other projects as well. Thanks to Nev for organising the whole thing

Final shot.

I noticed that a lot of Czech aircraft of the period carried a large heraldic devise as their unit badge. Searching the "box" I found this one - I think it's from either a Hasegawa Panther or Cougar that joined the FAA. Anyway it's VA223's badge with the "VA 223" scroll cut off.

I really like the way the heraldics look on this airplane.

Looks plausible and very handsome. The badge was good thinking.

McGreig

I like this - it looks surprisingly convincing in Czech markings and the badge looks great (and I'd never have guessed its source!)

Now that SERIOUSLY looks the part. Damm fine job Chris.
