How do you tell the gender of a Skyvan then?  ;D

All the birds  around here are pairing off and flying in couples, so I  wondered if Skyvans did too.  We have experts in just about everything on this site, I'm sure we have someone who has researched these matters willing to venture an opinion.

Over Keswick yesterday, a brace of A400M Atlas. Very low and loud......even louder than the didgeridoo player busking in the street nearby.

Went out to the airport this morning because of something I had heard on the grapevine.

First pleasant surprise was this RAF Atlas C1.

However the real interest was this trio.

An Omega DC-10 tanker and two F-18s.

We get Omega tankers in here frequently and F-18s, but these two were different.
They are Finnish Air Force.

Nice pics Jim ---    Love the Atlas, the first one I saw at YYC was a Luftwaffe one.

F-18's seem to be in the news today, two CF-188's ripped off runway 35L this morning right over where I was sat in my vehicle. Unfortunately, the sky was really overcast and they very quickly disappeared into the gloom ----

On another note; yesterday I saw WestJet's latest new aircraft, actually their new partners aircraft, Pacific Coastal Airways Saab 340 (C-GFCI). I was able to talk to the pilot as he was doing his pre-flight walk-around and he told me it's to be used for WestJet Link partnership.

If you are in the Leeds area there is a Canadian C-17 at Leeds-Bradford airport. They're stopping by for a few days as part of a training exercise.

I'm pretty sure I know what they were doing there. The Finnish Air Force has had a couple of F-18s in USA for JASSM test firing and some other systems verification. Air Force news site mentioned in March that they were to return in "mid May".

edit:
Somebody put the landing and departure on youtube:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJSX0P82QCI

Description says:
"""
Between the 10th & 12th of May 2018. The Omega DC10 Tanker & 2 Finnish Air Force F18s visited Prestwick. The past few years it's been 2 US Navy F18s enroute to Airshows. This year these 2 F18s are returning back to Finland after 2 years of weapons testing in California. They arrived on the evening of the 10th May. After a few days stay, they then departed for Helsinki on the 12th May in the early afternoon. I hope you all enjoy.

Nice   The one that was in Calgary was all over white with just the registration marks, I suspect it's off to the paint shop to get whatever the new partnership colours will be. The service doesn't start until July.

Cruising o'head at around 2500 ft this morning went a silver Spitfire XVI.

I heard that familiar Merlin song before I could see it, but it was too high to determine the markings. A lovely scene and sound track to start off the day.

Moments ago, a biplane seen against the sun and not positively identified. From the hooligan way in which it was being hurled around the sky, it was possibly the Pitts Special I've previously seen from Shobden.

The only way to fly a Pitts of course.  ;D ;D

Just had four Longbow Apaches pass over the house heading SSW. I suspect they were British Army. SWMBO reckons they are most probably heading down South for something this weekend  can't think what it might be.

The Wooksta!

Some dirty great military transport took off from Newcastle and flew past the hotel.  I think it might have been that Airbus thing - the noise it made didn't sound like turbofans, more like turborpops.
