Whilst out deadheading roses a few minutes ago, an OV-10 Bronco!   Against the sun so I couldn't see any markings or colouring, but the silhouette could have been nothing else. Heading slightly west of south, possibly towards the Bristol Channel. Might have been a Bronco Demo Team aircraft.  They are supposed to be appearing at Culdrose at the week end.

Read the other day that the USMC are thinking of reactivating some Bronco's (heavily up-dated) to see if that might offer an inexpensive alternative to F.18's in some roles. Was this just paper talk anyone Know ?

En route back from the model railway club this afternoon a GA twin, I think a Seneca of some sort, buzzed past me down the Severn at a VERY illegal altitude!

It was right over the river and I could see it through the passenger window of the car, and the road is right alongside the river there, so you can tell how low he was!  :o
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

The relevant sections are this:-

Boeing has recently put together plans internally to build a modernized, improved version of the Bronco, called the OV-10X, to satisfy a possible Air Force requirement for a light attack plane. According to Pentagon and industry officials, while the aircraft would maintain much of its 1960s-vintage rugged external design, the 21st century modernizations would include a computerized glass cockpit, intelligence sensors and smart-bomb-dropping capabilities. Boeing indicates that international interest in restarting production is growing, to compete with other light attack aircraft such as the T-6B Texan II, A-67 Dragon and EMB 314 Super Tucano.

On 3 February 2010, during the Singapore Air Show, Boeing announced that the international interest for the aircraft was such that it would go on with its development even in the case it failed to win the USAF tender for 100 Light Attack/Armed Reconnaissance aircraft.

and also this:-

In 2012, $20 million were allocated to activate an experimental unit of two OV-10s, acquired from NASA and the State Department. Starting in May 2015, these were deployed to Iraq on combat missions against ISIS, flying more than 120 combat sorties over 82 days. It is speculated they provided close air support for Special Forces missions. The experiment ended satisfactorily, but an Air Force spokesman stated it remains unlikely they will invest in reactivating the OV-10 on a regular basis because of the overhead cost of operating an additional aircraft type

Translation- because it's not a Mach 2 super stealth fighter, the Air Force doesn't want it.  Fine, let the Army have some organic fixed wing CAS.

Thanks Rheged, glad I hadn't imagined it.

Would the USMC be a potential customer ?

I was sitting in a carpark by the beach this morning, enjoying a nice cup of coffee when an RAAF PC-9 came overhead.  One of the few times I've actually been able to see them, as they buzz around.  Sounded, as always like a chainsaw going flat out and flashed past.   Was under a thousand feet as well.
Enjoy it while it lasts - the first RAAF PC-21 made its maiden flight this week!

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

Late last week, a Gripen and some helicopters fly over the centre of the city.

As it turned out, they were part of a fly past for the graduation ceremony of the local defense university campus.

not really seen today, but in April, a couple of days before ANZAC day, there was a lot of security around the Enoggera Army Camp and this was one of them!
It wasn't until viewing this chopper on the computer that I realized what it was.
This is Polair...one of our Police helicopters...sorry the shot is a little blurred....but it's a 5 optical zoom, and it was a distance away.

LOTS of GA stuff heading down the Severn, Cessnas, Pipers, singles, twins, the whole shebang. Maybe 12-15 of them one after the other all heading south west.  :o

Must be some event going on today and maybe over the weekend.
