A four engine jet with the engines at the rear?

As the prime contenders for that title, the RAF's VC10s, have all gone to museums now that only leaves two possibilities, the Il-62 and the Lockheed Jetstar.
Guess I was clear as mud. The engines were under the wings spaced apart. It was just floating in on a nice slow dog leg to final.

   Not sure what it was...
... but it was a four engine passenger jet, not a C-5A Galaxy. Shaped like the old DC-9 but it was white on top and gray on the bottom like a Navy jet. Dont see many jets like that in Kansas in the middle of the country but there it was, floating by overhead headed for a landing at Forbes Field here in Topeka.
Wish I'd had my camera with me.

US Navy?
If the engines were a pair high at the back it'd be one of the several Gulfstream variants, C-20 or C-37A/B.
If the engines were a pair under the wings it'd be a C-40 Clipper aka the Boeing 737-300.

You'd need to find out which airline has that white over gray scheme to know the aircraft, but I'm fairly sure it won't be UTair http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UTair_Aviation from Russia!

Flyer:Boeing KC-135 maybe?
I know the KC-135 very well by now as the Kansas Coyotes refueling group was based here. This was a skinnier jet like a re-purposed civilian passenger liner.
Nick We only have one airline using Forbes and those are not the colors they wear. Also the gray on Air Force aircraft is a different shade from Naval aircraft and I have seen both. We have the Combat Air Museum with some flyable aircraft and some pranged or rendered In-Op. I don't think this was theirs.

Rheged

In Cumbria visiting unwell parent. Got an afternoon off and went out.  At 3.00pm exactly, a pair of Herculeses (Herculi) at about 400 feet over Keswick, heading north. " minutes later, a VERY low Tucano. What a noisy little aeroplane!!

You did say 'Like a DC9' and that has its engines at the back.  ;D

Didn't the USN have some DC-8s they used for the original TACAMO programme? Before they switched to the current Boeing E-6s I mean.

[Later] It seems they did, but only one, designated the EC-24, but it can't have been that one as it's in the boneyard at Davis Monthan.  :banghead:

Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

... or perhaps simply an RC-135 out of Offut stopping by for a cup of coffee.  ;D

zenrat

Not over my house but outside the door of my current place of work.

It's the Huey on a stick outside the Dandenong RSL.  Yes i've posted pics before but not ones i've taken.  I started at this workplace on Wednesday (for 4 weeks) and it's still slightly odd to walk out the door and see this view.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

Well, since you're walking out the door, you might as well walk a little closer and get a few good pics of her ! What else is over there ?

Until I read it I hadn't picked that that was a Slick-on-a-Stick. ;)

Looks like a high shutter speed shot of a Huey wock-wock-wocking over the carpark.
