What are those things sticking out at the back under the tail?  They look like it's got its feet tucked up swimming penguin style.

According to what I've read recently about the BAe 146, they're flare dispensers/dectectors. The Queen's Flight 146 has them too.

For when Her Maj has something to celebrate?

"Pilot, one's team* has just thrashed Manchester United 4 nil.  Fire off some flares, there's a good chap".

*Crystal Palace?

I'm well old enough to remember the day we thrashed them 5-0 and when we were still the Glaziers. First game was back in 1956, no idea what I'd done to annoy Dad that much that he took me and that led to a life of disappointment with the odd great day in between. Palace 4-Liverpool 3 FA Cup Semi Final  ;D ;D

Yes, I saw a Queen's Flight 146, one of the longer ones, on approach to Northolt once, and those 'things' looked VERY weird! There was a sort of bright sparkly something going on at a couple of points around the 'Things'. very strange indeed.

just witnessed something i might never see again.
a whole ARMADA of US Army helo's, must have been about 10 of them
a mix of Apaches, Blackhawks & Chinooks

there will most likey be more to follow, as a ship full of them (70 choppers in total) arrived at Zeebrugge port 2 days ago and they are flown over to Germany in batches. so i will most likely see more of them in the next few days.

it looked like a scene from Apocalypse Now

Quite simply the best beer making nation in the world.

Something fast, loud and jet powered went over here today but I was in the toilet and didn't get out in time to see what it was.
I suspect it was an RAAF FA-18 going somewhere after having done the "scare the punters" low pass over the Moto GP at Phillip Island.

I would argue that we have individual breweries in the UK who are as good as any, but I wouldn't argue with your use of nation  It's also the whole doo-dah around beer ; the special glasses for each brew, glasses washed and dried immediately before pouring

Second-hand spotting only from me, I'm afraid: late last week Ian the Kiwi-Gatherer of this very parish sent me text messages to describe the landing approach of a C-17 to the airport local to him, then a few days later one of the science teachers at my old high school asked me on Facebook what he saw waggling its wings over my hometown...another, or the said, C-17. There's an exercise going on in NZ at the moment involving USAF C-17s and possibly others.
