Rheged

The "King's Cup Air Race"  is on at Shobdon (just north of me) this afternoon.  Unfortunately, it's one of my days as a National Trust volunteer at Berrington Hall (inside the hall) so all I can tell about the event is a constant stream of light aircraft engines.

Later:  looking up, I saw something that I'm sure was a Lake amphibian........and the lady in the cheese shop at Monkland (excellent home made cheese)  told me that when she was young, the children of the village would go out into the field where a huge orange sheet had been laid out  as a turn marker and try to cover it with cut grass or hay. They never succeeded, but they probably annoyed a lot of intrepid aviators!

Type of thing we would have done as kids in the 50's. Would have resulted in a clip round the ear and not being able to sit down for a day or two but can you imagine today's consequences ? Probably get done for corporate manslaughter, removed to a place of safe keeping and your parents sent on a "safe parenting course"
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Heck, even into the 80s.  Most of us here grew up as what's become known now as "Free Range" kids.  More's the shame, because that's how kids learn and experience life, and more kids in the industrialized world have less and less "common sense skills" now.

Saw some parachutists in the sky on our way to a wedding in Michigan yesterday. Upon driving past the wee aerodrome I spotted and Cessna, and then this guy was taxiing in ! Defo need to go back and have a look around Maybe if Zac does a NA vacation he could hit the joint up

;D I saw the prototype 750XL at an airshow in 2004, albeit static. They're very popular with skydiving outfits and geological surveyors.

In my thread 'Cross Canada Road Trip" there are pics of a Geological survey type with a NZ reg. I thought that was pretty cool ! But not as cool as the dash 7 with all the bits hanging

It's at the bottom of the first page :

I was driving home from work today and nearly into town when I saw an OH-6/MDD 500 type buzzing east to west and straight down the road toward town. He then turned south an followed the rr tracks until I lost sight of him. Definitely not checking powerlines or pipelines. It was painted black or very dark green. No markings were visible. Of course the cell phone pics were unusable.

Mr. & Mrs. JayBee were in Ayr shopping just over an hour ago. As we came out of M&S we heard a single jet, I did not see it, Grace did, but from the noise I had a sneaking suspicion as to what it might be. Then about ten minutes later we were just getting back to where the car was parked when the Swedish Air Force Historic Flight Draken came over, did a run along tomorrows display line and joined the circuit. Faboulous, first time I have seen a Draken flying.
So on the way home we took a slight detour via "Spotters Hill" at the airport and my suspicion about the first heard jet was proved correct, it was the J-29. First time I have ever seen one.

Then there was a flurry of movement from all the spotters/photographers there.
The sandwiches were packed away, the flasks were closed up, and the step ladders appeared.
Two minutes later the Saab 105 did a very gentlemanly break into the circuit. Again another first for me.

Getting quite excited about the airshow tomorrow.

Cats are not real.
They are just physical manifestations of collisions between enigma & conundrum particles.

Any aircraft can be improved by giving it a SHARKMOUTH!

Yes, Tunnan better known as J-29 as mentioned.

How cool is that ! I was lucky enough to see all three of them myself, along with my son and my pal Nick, at Waddo in 2013 !

The Wooksta!

On me way in to work on sunday, saw several of the Red Arrows on final approach to Newcastle Airport.

Captain Canada

So my Bro stops in for a pop yesterday afternoon. Clear blue skies as we sit outside. He looks up and says " That guy must be going to Chicago, look how high he is " I reply " No, he's heading to Detroit " I argued that it was a small private jet, like a Citation judging by is size. He argues that it's a big airliner etc etc. How do you settle said arguments ? Photographic evidence !

So the camera was out, and I took a pic of the local flight centre bird doing it's thing, with a bird.

Then the birds got carrierd away !
