Hey all!

Well, the club's website has been progressing along in its host-transfer, so there's been a bit of a lag in my getting anything new up for a while.

However, my newest-posted build is now up there: an AMTech Ta-183.

Please take a look and tell me what you think.

Huckebein

Thanks!  :salute:

Thanks guys!

I appreciate your feedback.

It really is a nice kit, just a bit simple.

I'd love to get my hands on another one, I can tell you.

Maverick

Sweet cam there MW.  Always been a fan of the Hucke, Gekko_1 has done some wicked profiles of them.

Regards,

Mav

Terrific model - love the word "Napkinwaffe"  :)

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

JC Carbonel

ah ! but this one is not "Napkinwaffe" ! It was the culmination of two years of research  begun with the Projekt V in 1943 It went through windcanal models , free flying models and detailed blueprints . It may have even been actually ordered by the RLM (no proof has emerged so far a contract was really given). A program with Versuch series , A-0 and A-1 was actually drawn with production graphs for the next year. Actual duralumin was nearly cut when the Allied troops invaded the factory.

The Ta-183 is one of the most real of the various "Luft 46" machines....

I know the Ta-183 isn't part of the 'Napkinwaffe'. I've got the Griehl book with the plans and a picture of the windtunnel model. Actually, what I said was:

"Because the Huckebein was so close to being a real fighter, and because there was every intent to develop it for service (as opposed to some of the more fanciful and less-likely-to-see-production concepts in the 'napkinwaffe' arsenal) "

I didn't mean to imply the Huckebein was one of the Napkinwaffe. That term is used for some of the more bizarre looking creations (and most project bombers, actually) that would have likely never seen prototype or even mock up form.

I really wish the 183 could have had a chance to 'grow up' a little, and at least make it into metal, before the end of the war.

I have an old stamp book that has a stamp with drawings of 'foreign fighters' on it. (This book is from the 1960's, and the 'stamp' is about 2" square.) It shows the "MiG 21", which looks like a slightly elongated Huckebein but with fences. Apparently, the Russians built and flew some machines like that, on the way to making the MiG 15. Never seen a photo, though. Just thought it was interesting.

Funny you should mention that.

I have the ARBA resin 1/48th kit which I bought many years before the AMtech kit came out. I plan to swap the wings and tail surfaces with those of a Mig 15's.

One would imagine that if it was built and really flew that they would probably have made the same mods to the design the the Russins eventually did.

That was my thought anyway ;)

The Huckbein is a wonderful design and I always have a little thrill of anticipation whenever one the the modelling sites has a new model posted on it.

I'd like to see more Huckbeins in Japanese markings, though

Captain Canada

You need to be an IPMS member to enter the comp ? I'd like to come up for the show regardless, but wouldn't mind entering a whif or two ! Would they be in the 'catch 22 catagory ?

Cheers !

Ooops - sorry if I'd implied that you had meant the Huckebein was one of the "Napkinwaffe". I realised you wern't talking about the Ta-183 with that word - just hadn't seen the word used before and loved it  :)
