so whaddaya think I should do--break out that brand new airbrush and slap on some exotic camo scheme or go for something more sedate?

I've been looking at the P-47s on Hyperscale and I think I might take some ideas from them.

That P-47 inthe two shades of blue looks particularly nice.

Looks like a Stealth in that last pic !  They're spying on you!

Try the airbrush and do something whacky.  You may want to do a "fishnet" camo using putty or something ?  If you haven't hit this site, you might want to for ideas :

 Silly Putty technique:

Looking forward to seeing the masterpiece!

How about Mig 15 camo and markings?

Blues?  This is a nice scheme:

It'd be a fairly easy one for a first airbrushing, if you wanted something a bit more extreme I'd go with Baz's Tiger stripes or Greg's Fish net, even inlaying one of the colours on the stripes if you feel adventurous!
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.
