In 1946 the Luftwaffe were deploying BV155s against the allies high altitude bombing campaign.....

This is my first vacform-the dreadful (I'm told) Airmodel kit. There is more filler than plastic in this, it has truly been the most difficult kit I have ever attempted. Nothing even came close to fitting. I abandoned ideas of scratch building the interior so painted the inside of the canopy black. And left it gear up...
It has been a great learning exercise though-and it only cost me £1.00 to buy!

Van

It should of course say Blohm with an M

GTX

Nice - I was always intriged by the Bv155.  One question - for a high altitude aircraft, wouldn't a blue, grey or even NMF finish be more appropriate than greens?

Hi Greg, You are probably correct-I thought so too!-However I used the Airmodel instructions as a basis for the camo (with artistic licence). I also wanted to practice this kind of scheme with my airbrush....

OK, I know I can't stop scratchbuilding. Someday, I will build something OOB....

You'd most likely find that Airmodel chose the Late War Greens primarily because A:- it's a fighter after all and;
B:- IIRC the prototype was roughed out in a similar scheme.

Logically, RLM blues and greys would have been a better finish in the long run

Nice one!

Anybody that can build a Vacform get smy thumbs up!

Get this Cheese to sick bay!

Excellent work on a difficult kit, Van! While the paint scheme may not be that "accurate" for a high-altitude fighter, I really like the way it looks and I've got to say you really carried it off. Two thumbs up!

Looks the business - as for colours. By 1945 the Lufwaffe was more concerned about camoflaging it's aircraft whilst they were on the ground. Whence the return to the greens & browns ? That's what I've read somewhere many eon's ago anyway.

Chris
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Very nice work on a tough to build model.

For its intended mission the BV 155 would have used an overall RLM 76 scheme like a few Bf 109s used when they were providing top cover for the Fw 190 Sturmgruppe. Late in the war it was more important for the Germans to conceal their aircraft on the ground to protect them from attacks from allied fighter-bombers so Luftwaffe aircraft were painted in green and brown colors, in 1944 many fighters left the factories in the usual RLM 74/75/76 colors were repainted at unit level with the late war green and brown colors. By 1945 almost all new aircraft were painted in the late war colors. It was common to see gray/green and green/brown comouflaged aircraft in the last months of the war.

Thanks for the comments so far everyone. For info I used Xtracrylix RLM82,83 and 76 which IPMS Stockholm http://ipmsstockholm.org/colorcharts/stuff...rts_germany.htm
list as a late war colour scheme. I know nothing about Luftwaffe paint   :)

I Do agree.

Beautiful subject and model. About colours I would not worry much because in 1945 Germans painted when they were able with what they could IMHO.

Hi Van,  yes you've done very well on that, not much to add to everyone elses comments.
