My dad once told me many moons ago that the RAF looked at the F-14 in the role the Tornado took on.  So here is an F-14 in a what if the Tornado never got past the Blue Circle stage.

Coool!

However, i dont think RAF was going to buy F-14 as bombers

Sorry I wasn't very clear with that.  I mean in the fighter role, blue circle in reference to  the concrete ballast in the nose the F2's had.

I wonder what they would have used for bomber instead? Perhaps they would just develop tornado GR4 then? Mirage 2000?

pleb

They probably would have continued with the Tonker.  I know the Tory government when they came to power in 79 looked at restarting the TSR2 but that idea was quickly scraped.

Nice build there pleb! I always enjoy seeing aircraft in different markings and I've got to admit the Tomcat looks pretty sharp in RAF roundels!

Nice.  Which kit did you use?  I've had similar thoughts for my Monogram 1/48 F-14A.

I imagine the RAF would have been allowed a much larger air-air role in Iraq, Kosovo, and Iraq again if they had had a decent dogfighter instead of Bear hunter.
So I got that going for me...which is nice....

I'm willing to take a guess and say you used the 72nd Airfix kit? The shape of the burner cans is very unique and I've only seen them on the airfix kit. Looks like she was MEANT for RAF colors!

Yes correct it was an old airfix kit that was knocking around.
