I bought the Lindberg LCT for parts for another project. I ended up with several 1/245 scale LCVPs. I thought that they would make interesting patrol boats in 1/350 scale, so I closed off the ramp of one LCVP and followed the hull lines to make a new bow out of Magic Sculp epoxy putty.

The top boat is my mod, the lower one an unmodified LCVP.

OK, so now I have this fast looking boat (it's about 2"/50-51mm long, 57-58 feet/17.5m - 18m long in the real world) but what to do with it? I can't come up with a good design. I almost certainly want to do away with the gun tubs (the two short cylinders at the rear) and cover up the troop area, but I want to keep the braces on the sides.

Any ideas, drawings, etc.?

Thanks

Originally when higgins (or whoever designed the LCT) designet the LCT, it looked somewhat like what youve done! Soldiers where meant to jump off the side of the boat, not run off the front!

The Riverine forces in Vietnam used several versions of patroll boats based on landing craft Monitors,Zippo's,Tango's and ATAC's all were based on landing craft
heres a link with various pictures Riverine image gallery it has 3 pages of riverine ships helos and such I have more myself let me dig them up

A riverine/coastal cargo vessel.
In-shore patrol - cover the well with a deck.
A floating crane.

As an alternate idea, in 1/700 it would be 114-116 feet long.

In want of hobby space!  The kitchen table is never stable.  Still managing to get some building done.

A Riverine is a cool idea. You could also grab some of White Ensigns Phalanyx guns in 350th scale and make a wee AD boat !

Also, Mirage Hobbies have a range of 400th scale Russian Korvettes that have loads and loads of wee parts to detail-up ships.

Have fun !

Thanks for the ideas! I thought I'd posted a reply, but I guess not.

B777LR - I don't know what would be worse; jumping off the side of the boat, fully loaded with gear or running down a ramp with some bad guys shooting right at you. The opening scenes from "Saving Private Ryan" were pretty harrowing.

Panzer - I was thinking of a more modern boat, although I have several left and may make a Vietnam era river boat/monitor.

JoeP - I have the Heller LCT/LCU 1/400 kits, and one will be converted into a oil/mining support & cargo ship. I have an idea for a diorama of one of these ships cruising along on a muddy jungle river... with a crashed flying saucer just around the bend. But that's another project.

Captain Canada - I have several of those 1/400 Tarantula class corvettes. Lots of cool parts. I may borrow the gun from the DML 1/700 version, though.
