"Spats" funny translation

The French-speaking ones among us may have noticed a funny thing: when they look into an English-French dictionnary, it is written
"spats = guêtres (over shoes)",
while in French aeronautics "spats = train pantalonné (landing gear pants)".
This means:
1- In English, spats (on wheels/feet) are considered as the airplane shoes
2- In French, spats (on landing gears/legs) are considered as the airplane pants
Funny, no?
My question is: if there was a vote with other languages, what side would win? Spanish, Hollandese/Flamish, Danish, Polish, Italian... Shoes or pants?
This may be a very important point for our BdB (Spats-man)'s peace of mind...

The Brits called them 'trousers', spats is an Americanism.

I thought spats were "chaussons" in french (well, "guetres" is not too far).
And yes, in french, spats (for aircrafts) are "pantalons".
I thought about that before...

Spats in danish? Uh, im afraid we just call them spats  When i was at the airport this week, i was put at repairing a spat that was cracked! (spatman will be happy to know )

1- Spats USA, Spats Denmark (shoes)
2- Pantalons France, Trousers UK (pants)

That's interesting how different cultures have unique names for Spats.  

For example, in Alberta, us cowboys call 'em
"T-Tails"

Well, nothing much new or different from my side. In Venezuela we call a spat a Pantalón, or Pantalones in plural. Those less familiar with aircraft call them Carenados (Fairings).

none of this is about a "spat" with the wife....a short argument??      

The idea of " trousers" is interesting as on some "fully spatted"   aircraft that is just how they appear.

I have never really taken to " spats" but Im becoming ever more tempted to make something with them.

The Cessnas in Eastern Montana  have wheel pants with both words used together as one word.    "Spats" are what happen between new lovers or sisters in that part of the world.

Well, I have no idea what an aircraft spat is in Czech.

However on the issue of clothing:

Trousers = kalhotky

If you're a man and you go shopping for trousers in the Czech Republic, make sure you ask for kalhotky and not kalhoty.

The difference may not seem like much until you realize kalhotky are men's trousers and kalhoty are women's underpants.

And yes, I did find out the difference the hard way.
