Kitbashing VG and fixed wing models...

After our productive comrade started to kitbash a F-111 and a F-15, I'm asking about the bashing of VG aircrafts with fixed wing ones.
what are the possible combos ?
The VG types are
- MiG-23, F-111, Tornado, Tomcat, Su-24
fixed wings types
- TSR-2, Phantom, F-15, F-22, F-18 Superbug , Su-27, Su-47,MiG 1.44, MiG-25,
Su-15...

The debate is open...

French Soldier: Of course not. You're English types.
King Arthur: What are you then?
French Soldier: I'm French. Why do you think I have this outrageous accent, you silly king?

Well regardless I would rather take my chance out there on the ocean, that to stay here and die on this poo-hole island spending the rest of my life talking to a gosh darn VOLLEYBALL.

I'm wanting to do a swing-wing flanker myself.

where does the VG system come from ? Tomcat or F-111 ?

My personal dream is kitbashing a MiG-23 and a... Falcon 20 (mach2 has made one) , to obtain the Tintin Carreidas bizjet (Nils, JC Carbonel here ?)

I did a "virtual kitbash" of a Tomcat and Flanker. The end result looks quite appealing IMHO.

I forget who, but there have been a couple of F-4 VG's posted to the site in the last year (one was for a GB).  And I've seen a VG TSR.2 as well.  Again, I forgot who did it, but I'm fairly certain it may have been The Wooksta.

All of them looked very sharp!

That Su-27/F-14 kitbash looks nice, Canis!

Don't forget the Su-17/20/22 for VG wings, as well as the X-5.

The plan for my Mig-31K (which has been in the planning stages since I first model-blitzed this site) is for VG wings ala the Su-22 (extended wing gloves, then the outer wing is VG).  I forget, was it the Mig-25 or Mig-31 that had a preproduction study that showed it with VG wings?

I have something for you : there's a thread on Secret project full of early MiG-31, some of them had VG wings... I had posted a thread here with the link, some weeks ago (I have to check)

Here we are. hope you'll enjoy that and it give you plenties of ideas, productive comrade!!

There's always the VG Lightning of course, & a few have already bashed one:

The swing wing Lightning would have used the same wing as the standard version.   If you wanted to convert a type to VG, you wouldn't have to use the wings from another swinger.  Either use the wings from the kit itself or another non-VG type, whatever's suitable.  All you'd have to do then was construct the gloves, either from a swinger or scratchbuild them.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

QuoteThe VG TSR2 has been done - at least 3 times by me, Thorvic and Lazlo.  F14 wings are what you need and are pretty much spot on.
Really want to see pics of this models if possible...

Yep, those are the concepts I've got.  Couldn't remember if there was a thread over at Secret Projects specifically for the Mig-31 concepts or if they were dumped into one of the various Soviet aircraft threads.

And my Mig-31 VG will look a bit different than those.

With Lee, Thor and Lazlo all doing TSR.2 VG's, that makes the pics of the models on my hard drive make sense.  I couldn't figure out if these pics were of the same model or different ones  :dum:   I think pics of them are in the TSR.2 section of the Hot Research topics section.

Heh...  Evan, as soon as I sent the post with the Su-17/20/22 mention in it, the exact same thought of "Su-15 with Su-22 wings on it" popped into my head!     Maybe when I can find another Su-15 kit...

Fixed wing F-14 wouldn't be too far out there, as Grumman's model 303E (or was it G?) showed the F-14 fuseloge w/F-15 wings. I've been trying to work up the nerve to do that one (in 1/144, as I have LOTS of parts from these 2 birds in that scale), but so far have yet to do so.

Though I would add canards to the carrier-based version.

I remember reading something from the early '80s that speculated(based on satellite images of ramenskoye) that the RAM-K/Su-27 was a swing-wing version of the "Super Foxbat"

Thats an interesting but understandable way of interpreting things, no?
