In 1949, the australian governement decided to allowed CAC to produce indigenous fighters. But the firm had to learn, so Panthers and Sabres were first produced... in paralel with the CA-23 all weather fighter.
In 1953, a mach-2 fighter was started, the P-65 Warrior.
first prototype flew in 1959, quickly reaching mach 2.3. It was quite similar to the F-104, but with much better handling caracteristics...

Fantastic Archie! I think this is one of your most creative projects yet! I really like the intakes and how the canopy meets the fuselage. That curve is almost mesmerizing to me. It really looks like it's built for speed! Sharp as a needle!

The beast with Heller F-18 decals...(and a red strip on the rear fuselage, to mask the... eerrh.. problems )

I gradually discovered CAC projects those years... I have heard of their piston-engined fighters, and always asked about their jet fighters (others than building the F-86 under licence).
There was an article in air enthusiast some years ago, and aguy on the web send it to me. I knew only the CA-23 (just love this one!) and the CA-31 but discovered "mach 2 shapes" (XP-65 and XP-68 Warrior).
So this one is not a total whatif
I have to search on the hard disk for the lovely profile of the XP-65 /XP-68
