The recent 'activity' in the Middle East has me interested in some Israeli a/c. For one, I'm finishing my kitbashed Lavi started a couple of years ago, (just as Anigrand announced their kit!) At least mine's the single seater. I was thinking of a "Super Kfir", using a Mirage IV but giving it the "Kfir treatment", twin J-79s, canards & of course, missiles along with that cool camo & the yellow & black triangles. I know Israel has modified the F-4 & they have the F-16I. Were there any other projects? Any mods to the A-4? Any other indigenous proposals like the Lavi or Arye? Maybe even a helo gunship, based on the Super Frelon. Kind of like the Sikorsky S-67.

As far as the A-4 goes, they put the extended nozzle onto the engine to help counter IR guided SAMs,such as the SA-7.They also added 30mm DEFA cannons in place of the 20mms.They recently tested Nimrod ATGMs from a CH-53,so I suppose that shows some potential as a heavy gunship.

Phil cater (aka Roger the cabin boy) remember him? mentioned that he had recently read that Isreal tried to get hold of RB-57's for the peace jack project, before they settled on those heavily modded Tooms, that have only recently been retired

Isreal did want the Mirage IV, initially 15 for the recon role and then later a strike version with conventional bombs and AS-30 capability. Unfortunately they wanted the French Air Force to order the conventional version first (France only having the aircraft for the Nuclear strike or Recon roles).

Isreal also nearly received F-8 Crusaders and i think i saw reference to looking at the Fiat G-91 at some stage.

Mirage IV after modifications to look like the Nesher on steroids, that would be interesting.  As far as the conventional weapons, that might have been true but when Israel finally achieved membership in Le' Club Nuclear' they would have required a delivery system capable of reaching Baghdad or Tehran and the Mirage IV would have been an ideal candidate for that mission.

If the Mirage IV had entered IAF service, it is possible that the mission to destroy the Osarak Nuclear Reactor could have been performed with the Mirage IV provided there were hard points capable of carrying the large smart bombs that were needed to attack the target.

The Fiat Gina in IAF service would also be interesting in the close air support role.  Possible modifications to include a third pylon under each wing for an AAM in addition to the other ordnance carried might have made it rather useful to the IAF.

The Mirage IV would certainly benefit from the adaption of a one piece windscreen and a canopy with better visibility, maybe a donor can be had from the Mirage 2000?

I could have sworn that they used dumb bombs, but made dive bombing attacks to increase accuracy.

Isreal almost operated the F-86 Sabre but these didn't arrive be for the Suez Crisis, and following the big who-haw about that they were never delivered.  Jennings did two profiles of Isreali Sabres a while ago.

I heard recently Israel may be talks ith Russia about buy 1 or a couple Mi-26 Halo heavy lift choppers. It'd make a nice compliment for the CH-53s if its true.

Now then babies....the idea of a fiat G-91 "Gina" in Israeli colours certainly grabs me   :P    :P
Perhaps stood next to a NA F-86 Sabre Dog, the Gina's "bigger brother"???

Just ordered a Tamiya KV-1C (1/35th) that was cheap (Israeli, circa 1945, modified of course) ;)

Well looking at the PRO file listings last night saw official reference to Isreali Chieftans along with additional Centurions.

The more interesting mention however was from 1956 where Isreal was going to buy the Folland Gnat and manufacturing rights much as India did.....

F-1's T-2, maybe later MK2's or joint venture with India on the Ajeet.
