Thunderbirds

I've had an idea forming in the back of my mind, nothing concrete, just a whispy dream like image of a Thunderbirds (Gerry Anderson, not the USAF show offs!) inspired build.

If you were going to create a vehicle that wouldn't look out of place in the show, what would you do & how would you go about it?  A new Thunderbird?  One of the bizzare vehicles that popped out of Thunderbird 2's belly?  Something that got itself into the depths of peril, only to be rescued by the Tracey family two minutes before the end of the episode?

I've always loved these machines since as was a kid, & as I've got older (too old) I've been impressed that Gerry Andersons designs seemed to have been loosely based on real world projects, a whiffer extordinaire!

What do you guys think?

Simon.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

There's a TB2 and the IMAI set with all the pods on my desk now.
If you're inventing another one you'd have to remember that Thunderbird Six has been taken (Tiger Moth I believe).
If I was going to make one, then my best approach would probably to get blind drunk and tell somebody that it'll happen by the end of the week. Then see what happens during the last day   :)

Edit: My method seems to work for Brains on the telly  :)

I think the Japanese went to around T-17 in "Thunderbirds 2086"

But it sure would be nice to design updates of TB vehicles ....

I would probably go the other route and create some more ground equipment to be carried in 2's containers or some other hero vehicles.  Got a book about the models from the show and it includes some design concepts, etc.  Always thought some of those would look cool.  Even includes an article (in Japanese unfortunately) about using 2 32nd scale Testors Husky helicopters and some engine pods from the Monogram 48th scale B-58 Hustler to make a cool looking VTOL vehicle.

There's some stuff here about the Models he used. Funny doing my Mirage I thought it was very "Thunderbirds" something about eight wheels on the landing gear. Me I always thought they needed some kind of Tank, and I loved those big huge trucks that the Hood was always driving over the desert.

I invite all and any criticism, except about Eric The Dog, it's not his fault he's stupid

You know that Alvis 3.1 or John Howling Mouse probably have ideas on the subject... B)

You know what I always say: "Put a SPATS! on it and it will be great"

Curse you and your SPATS!, Brian da Basher!!!   <_<

Um, actually my suggestion would be T-tails for the T-birds!

The idea rang a bell, so I called up my ever-expanding 'What if ideas' Word file, and sure enough, checking in at number 54 is 'Thunderbird 2 as CAF heavy lifter.'

Aussie magazine ModelArt Australia had an article last year featuring a Thunderbirds style aircraft.
Using the Matchbox Victor as the basis he turned the whole thing upside down, cut the tail fin off and put a new larger item on what was now the top of the fuselage, added canards and some extra tail fins, chopped the wings so the last 1/3 had some awesome anhedral (think XB-70) and made new undercarriage bays with lots of wheels. With a red and white airliner scheme and that heavy Thunderbirds weathering finish it looked damn impressive!
