Besides the air race, what other activities

Having never been to Reno for the Unlimited Air Races, I'm curious if there is other entertainment presented.   Are there aerobatics?  Flying team demonstrations?  Single aircraft demonstrations?    Or...is it all about racing?

The spurious European Air Race that's being formed in my mind for future building needs some sort of fact-based foundation.

There's a couple of ideas I have in mind for Tamiya's new He-162 , Monogram's Me-262  and PhotoPanther.  :ar:  :ar:  :ar:

Thanks,

Well, if you really get bored you could always hit the casinos.

When I went in 1996, it wasn't just racing although this is the main event.  There's a number of classes which race, plus there was demo's and some aerobatic displays.  The airfield is also shared by the Nevada Air National Guard which had a very large static display of aircraft.  This was where I saw my first F-117 in the flesh. The races are held at the airfield near a town called Sparks which is just NE of Reno, takes about 20 mins in the car from the hotel we used near Reno International Airport.

There's the usual airshow tent city, and for a few extra bucks I got a pass to walk through the pits and view all the racers up close, just like at a car race.  There's four days of racing and qualifying so there's plenty of time to look around the countryside.

Someone has already mentioned the casinos (in Reno)  and if you want ot see where Bonanza was filmed is about 3/4 of an hour west of Reno on the highway to San Francisco.  A little further along and you get to the turn-off to Lake Tahoe ( a very nice afternoons drive) where you can either do the whole lake or turn off at the bottom (south end) and head east again and come back to Reno via Carson City (capital of Nevada).

Cheers,  Robert
