There might be room for a 1950's era ''Almost Lighter than Air'' Airship here too....lemme think.    Some done-up pre-war racer for post-war use in all this perhaps.

Perhaps a Mad Max'ed Amiot 153?

[Edit]  Modified manned Fi-103 Reichenburg into ground attack machine, armor plated for pilot safety and re-usability of airframe.

Other ideas to follow,

You got it!

Another idea floating about was to metalize a monoplane Morane Saulnier from pre-WWI (the one that gave rise to the famous Eindekker and the Pfalz E.1) and use some boosted engine to compensate for weight gain and retaining the wing-warping.    Maquette used to deliver a 1/48 one to the US but I've not been able to locate one for some time.

Where would/could the new Hobby Boss 1/48 T-34/76 fit?

Back to the Reichenburg, one idea was to enlarge the wings and have them corrugated a'la Ju-52 but better proportioned for the final design.

Just to say that The Crusaders will be represented not only on the Whatif? SIG display, but 4 models from the thread are to be in the Competition at Telford:

Inquisition M41+.....Black hull, red turret.....88mm gun from Ferdinand Elephant kit and some other additions/modifications. All dirty, weathered, on a base/text so the JMNs can have a fit.

Knights Templar M41+.....black hull, white turret, pink crosses and "barber's pole" gun denoting the crew led by the Earl of Doncaster (see Black Adder 1: The Spanish Infanta)...mods, stowage with base /text.

Inquisition SesquE5A....all weathered red....base/text to annoy JMNs and give us a laugh.

Teutonic Knights V-tail SesquiCamel...base/texr too.

Should be fun????

Hey guys. Have a question for ya. I have an Academy 1/72 Me-163 that needs direction. I really want to build somethign along this thread, but I don't have many kits that aren't already allocated. So, what would you guys suggest of my Komet? Remember, I'm not just thinking Crusaders, but also other ancient orders/tribes/races/whatever.

Holy Roman Empire?  Which *chuckle* I've read historians describe as "none of the above". :D

Wasn't Holy, wasn't Roman and wasn't an Empire.

Yeah, just about sums it up.

A Viking '163 could look good....."horns" out of the fuselage just aft of the cockpit, and launched from a ramp on a Viking carrier?

Now if you are going down the Viking road do it as a "Berserker" aircraft - you'd have to be one to fly it  :P Dark greays with a raven on the tail ?

Or do it as the Celt equivalent, the guys who fought in the nude with limed hair ? Squadron markings could be a Boars Head with "tartan" bands ?

Or a modern equivalent of the Persian sythed charriot - another suicide weapon ? Fairly bright colours with some sort of flame motif as the squadron marking ?

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Or a Briton covered in Blue Woad?

If you REALLY have lots of time, do it Norman with scales of thin card or paper and a pennant flying from the mast?
Dark metallic grey?

Quite like that idea myself, on something else though

Byzantine Empire. In wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Byzantine_Greece

In this article you can find backstories and the flags to make your own markings.

I always thought it was Torque ? - usually made from Electum ? Alloy of gold & silver. Still as the Celts had no written language does it matter ?

Thats why I get umpitty about the pronounciation of Boddacea - now "Budika" - how the hell can anyone assume that some bloody great big East Anglian Celt pronounced it in a certain way  :(

Just realised why the Icenai wore tartan - they came from Essex - wonder if it was Burberry ?  :P

There are JMNs in every pursuit and pastime....even history :(

I bet there are scholars who have made their career out of how to pronounce Boudicea
