Hi everybody...Yesterday I got one of these moments where you got an idea that never leaves you until its done but sadly the idea was to....well...extraordinary...so googling around didn't help me so...but i'm really confident that some experts can help me...

I read some newspaper articles about the USAF leaving NAS Keflavik in Iceland and the Icelandic Coast Guard taking over the base and their tasks but...with what equipment will they do the tasks of the USAF and USN??? Their hole equipment are three 1970's coastguard boats, a Super Puma helo, a Dauphin helo and a very old Fokker Friendship...

so i search around and found out that they want to acpuire a replacement for their Fokker as well as new helicopters...and...Defense systems...but nothing precise so does anyone know WHAT they want to buy? or did they already got the new systems? One source said something about France and Russia willing to sell defense things but again nothing precise so it could be everything from a Renault truck to a RAFALE...

Look up Icelandic Crisis Response Unit in Wikipedia and folow the links to the Icelandic Ministry of Foreign Affairs.  They have set up a civilian team of police and medics for monitoring, ceasefire observers, reconstruction teams etc.  More likely purchases of body armour and mine-protected vehicles than Flanker and Leclerc...

Sorry GeorgeC i didn't make my point clear...i too don't think that iceland will buy big weapons but that even doesn't catches my attention...the interesting thing is that many websites announce a acpuisition of new planes and helos but no type are mentioned so therefore i asked...sorry for beeing so hard to understand

And for aeroplanes, might I suggest the Dash 8 ? There are more than a few of them used for maritime surveilance. Also, the Canadair CL-415 would be another great choice !
