New Israeli fighter

I just got this idea:

With all those fancy, new, expensive fighters the Israelis are buying (F-15I and -16I), they figure out that they might need something cheaper for short-range 'down-and-dirty' work. The Ra'ams and Sufas are cool for strategic deterrence and precision strikes, but somewhat overkill for operations, erm, 'around home'. What is needed is a true replacement for the A-4. Able to do small-scale surgical strikes with Hellfires & GBU-12s, retaliatory strikes on Katyusha launch sites with Mk.82s & Rockeyes and able to hold its own in a furball with Python 4s & Derbys. Looking around, they find what they seek with one of the eastern customers for their high-tech hardware.

So, anyone know where I can get hold of a 1/72 HAL LCA (Tejas?) B)

Why not go for something more futuristic like the winged Martian War Machine from the old War of the Worlds film from the early 60s?

It had that wing shape similar to the flying sub from Voyage to the bottom of the sea and that goose-neck death ray mounted on top.

A nice IAF camouflage job with appropriate placement of the IAF Star of David and you have something capable of taking out entire armor formations in one brilliant flash of light.

Isn't that what the Lavi was intended to be?

As for a Israeli Tejas - neat idea (can't help you with a kit I'm afraid, but I hope you find one) - even if I don't personnally like the Tejas (just looks wrong to me for some reason).

Yeah, that's more or less what the Lavi was supposed to be. In my head tho', the Tejas is not as capable, electronics wise, as the Lavi.

As for looks, it kinda looks like a Viggen that's not fully grown (wings haven't dropped, no canards) :D

there are no Tejas kits yet, i tried converting a gripen kit, and that turned out ok (in 1/144)

if you are going to attempt a 1/72 build, i recommend the prototype kit by Revell.

As an alt. to the LCA (Lavi being out of the running due to history), why not the Gripen or that new Super Gripen? Updated Kfirs anyone?

I'm with Shas on this on the Gripen would be a good choice or if you want STOVL/VTOL capability then why not go with a Harrier??
Try not. Do. Or do not. There is no try.

Oh Dude! You're my friend for life with such an idea!!

I personaly enjoy the little LCA and seeing it with Israeli's camo is a lovely idea!!

But well, sad thing their is no kit available...

But if you want to stay in this very cool idea of a cheap attack plane, I thought about other solutions for Israel, some month ago:

-Hawk 200 single seater: I could carry 8 light bombs or 12 Brimstone/Hellfire missiles with a 30mm gun and 2 Python 4 missiles
-Aero L-159: quite the same thing but probably cheaper...
-Second hand Mirage 2000C: with a minimal refit, they could be graded to the Indian standard and beeing very adapted for the missions tou described...
-Second hand Gripen: same thing, but no need for refit. Both France and Sweden wil soon propose a lot of second-hand fighters for export...

But if the LCA is the Chosen One, a friend of mind had a good result in crossing a 1/72 Gripen with 1/72 Mirage 2000C...

Good luck!

F-20?

Mitsubishi F-2A/B?   No....that's *way* too expensive...

Skyraider????????

Chengdu F-7B.  (That's the Chinese modified crank-wing Mig-21 yes?)

MiG-27 rebuilt to high quality standards

Su-25....that's a possibility....

How about a F-20/Lavi hybrid that could use a lot of the existing F-5/F-20 tooling and infrastructure, but using at least Lavi canard and wings?

Failing that, how about a single-seat version of the South Korean A-50?  *chuckle* Really, you compare systems and that's damn close to a re-packaging of the F-20 in a new airframe.

Well, T-50 sounds good too...
In fact, there is some plans for a single seater variant, the F-50 (already so a model atan airshow)... The model was with 3 tanks, 2 Sidewinder (but why not Python 4 ;) ) and 6 Maverick on TER!

Well,

If your looking at really light fighters, how about a single seat version of an aircraft I suspect we will see in Israeli markings (for real) soon anyway - the ATG Javelin:

*Wicked chuckle* Yep, I know that.  Have to see if I can ease the curiosity itch that produces.
