What about packing the nose with cameras (or maybe one big one with a extreme focal length), adding longer wings and making it a high altitude forerunner of the Canberra PR.9?

Love the idea, though. Hmmmmm thinx, didn't the early Skyraiders carry something like a 'mini' torpedo. There's nothing wrong with doubling the WhIf coefficient by building it in USN colours circa 1950 and then have it carry one of those mini torps !

Ian
Yes they did Ian and I've got a couple in the weapons set for the Martin Mauler - uhm and I've a spare Airfix Mk III

Chris
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Egads,

What have I started?  I see a vague reference to Meteors carrying torpedoes and now we have people (including myself) buliding/planning all sorts of Whiff Meteors!  I love it!!!

Ref the PR meatbox

Meteor PR-19. built many moons ago by kit Spackman.

and just for fun.......

One i did a few years back. This model is how i got to know Tophe, he was looking for new ideas for one of his twin boom books and found a pic of this beast on my site.
I always hope for the best.

Martin,

Do you have more pics of the twinned Meteor?  Was there a backstory?

There was another Meteor variant that I haven't seen mentioned here, it was the Gloster Reaper, a ground attack variant that boasted underwing rockets/bombs and Venom style tip tanks. It was demonstrated to (I think) the Belgian AF but went no further than the prototype.

GTX

Waynos,

You mean this one:

I hadn't forgotten it - in fact, I'm thinking of incorporating some of it's characteristics into my Sea Meteor.

Well during the 50's the USN used Grumman Guardian's in hunter/killer pairings, so why not Geoff. Maybe a two seater in the hunter role and a single seater as the killer

Radish

Modify a Tamiya Meteor III into a "Reaper" variation, and use Ian's previously mentioned idea of a USAAF 9th AF example, natural metal, suitably decorated brightly and rather tatty and worn.....on psp planking....I rather like the idea myself....yes

Hi folks,

I actually proposed the Hunter/Killer Pairing a few years ago as a way of having a ASW UCAV - the idea would be to have 2 long endurance UCAVs (probably more akin to the Global Hawk or Predator varaint than a X-45/47 thing) with one pcked full of sensors to aquire subs whilst the other would be loaded with appropriate weapons.  This was a couple of years before the USN, RAAF and others started looking at UAVs in a Maritime Patrol Role.  Maybe I should model this now - does anyone know if the Global Hawk is available in model form?
