Has anyone done any modelling inspired by the book "Fatherland" ? I am especially thinking about the Junkers airliner .

Radish

I enjoyed the book and the film....haven't done any modelling though. :)

I have the book but have yet to read it, but did they really make a movie of it???

What Junkers airliner is that?  Its been many years since I read the book.

Yes, with Rutger Hauer in the main role - not sure how accurate it was to the book though since I haven't read the book.

The main elements are there but as usual it has been changed dramatically at the end.

It wasn't bad for a made for cable movie. But it could stand a proper re-make.

Have not made any models from it. It is more of a thriller than a war movie.

Grab it and read it you will not be disappointed.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but If I remember right, there is a scene at the end of the book with a Helicopter gunship.

Can't remember.

Been a while since I read it.

10+ years since I read it, but I do remember it talked about an ongoing war with the Russians east of the Urals, kinda like a guerilla war that won't go away.  Makes for some interesting possibilities.

Fantastic book, love it. I was quite gutted when I saw the HBO version in the local Blockbuster - I wanted to make the movie! - but I watched it anyway. Not too bad.............

Anyhoo, thanks to that I was attempting to make a modified 109G racer, a la Dago Red etc, in retro 30s colours for a Fuhrertag flypast. Never finished it. But picture it - clipped wings, bigger engine, streamlined canopy, silver with black cowl and rego, and red stripe/swastika on the tail...........

During the part where Xavier and Charlie are flying to Switzerland, I had a certain track by Beethoven stuck in my head, that I thought would be perfect in any film version - the Mondschein Sonata (Piano sonata No.4 Op27,2). Track it down, listen to it, see if you don't agree.

I read the book years ago and I was disapointed the Ju airliner did not make it to the movie. I always envisionned it as a B707 with a "beetle" cockpit in the nose;..in prewar Lufthansa markings of course , metal with black engines end black trim. So I wondered if someone had had the same approach ...

sorry for replying so late but this site is blocked from my office computer so I only come on off-days.
