I was toying with the idea of putting my DO335 in 78/79/65 as a desert machine.  For some reason, I like that idea

Thanks Patrick!
Photographing my models is adding to my enjoyment of the hobby and also helps me see what areas of my models need improvement.

lancer,
The Do 335 would make sense being used in the desert, some of the jets like the Me 262 and Ta 183 would not work very well because of all the sand and dust eating away at the crude engines used at that time.
A Do 335 painted like some of the Bf 109Fs used by JG 27 would look great.

If you do, especially for a desert scene, don't forget to add sand filters to the supercharger intakes (clone some from a tropicalized f109F or 'G).

lancer,
Another reason why I think the Do 335 would work being used in the desert, as elmayerle pointed out air filters would be needed like those used on the Bf 109 but since the Do 335 was such a large a/c and set so high above ground level it would avoid at least some of the dust and sand from clogging the air filters.
The ground crews were very busy constantly cleaning or changing the air filters on the Bf 109s used in Afrika, the filters were only partly successful in keeping dirt out of those engines.
