I'd use whatever your usual is, but sprayed not brushed.
Won't have the old problem of the clear making the pastel weathering vanish, at least!   ;D

I'll have to look around. The one I used to flat coat it attacked some of the decals. Would the old Testors dullcoat work over the acrylic clear coats?

No experience with it, we can't get it here.

Others will know more (wouldn't be hard!  ;D )

I like the Gunze Flat Clear, but it depends on availability in your locale.

What were you using?  Tamiya clear had a reputation for eating transfers.

I use Crystal Clear Acrylic (Gloss or Satin) from a rattle can which those outside the Antipodes probly won't be able to get as it is made specifically for the local DIY whorehouse known as Hammerbarn.
If I need a flat coat I airbrush on a Vallejo acrylic flat clear.  I bought some Mecha Varnish 27.702 Flat Varnish because I read somewhere it was supposed to be "the best".  It's certainly not bad but it doesn't seem to be any different to any of the other Vallejo flat clears I have.  Being waterbased it is safe on transfers (at least so far).

It was a rattle can from the craft store. The strange part is that I've used it on other things successfully. The last part in the can is what seemed to do the damage. I always shake the daylights out of cans I use. And since I used a mix of decals, it appears to be the Tamiya decals that reacted. Very strange case of organic chemistry chaos.
Sounds like a trip to the craft store or LHS is in order.

dude that turned out fantastic
A nice amount of weathering without over doing it ,,which is so damn easy ,,, as for the hodling it down part ,, i've found the the Ammo varnish rages are pretty good and you can brush or spray it ,,their Super Flat does what it says on the bottle ,,i do like the Ammo rattle cans too .. so easy to work with and i do use their high gloss varnish for the weathering and decal side of things and best of all ,,zero reaction with any decals i've used and on any paint i've used ,,that includes automotive sprays too ..like a lot of other blokes i do stay away from any of Tamiya's clears ,,man i've had zero luck with any of em and the stuff will mess up Tamiya's own decals  :banghead:
:Oh here's an idea which will very likely work ,, automotive rattle can clear coats ..might be cheap enough to give it a blast .
If it aint broke ,,fix it until it is .
Over kill is often very understated .
I know the voices in my head ain't real but they do come up with some great ideas.
Theres few of lifes problems that can't be solved with the proper application of a high explosive projectile .

Thanks for the advice and compliment!

Just be careful with the automotive stuff, as some of it might leave the paint but won't play nicely with styrene & will eat your model.

While Tamiya TS clear can not play well with others paints or with transfers, it is excellent over Tamiya TS paints.  Which is unsurprising as that's what it is designed to go over.

Must admit I still brush Windsor & Newton Matt Varnish out of a bottle.
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

I have some Vallejo flat polyurethane clear. I'll have to fire  up the airbrush for that.
We just put down new vinyl flooring and there are a couple of scratches in it already. The Vallejo makes them disappear.

Full circle - from floor polish to model varnish and back again!  ;D
