The P.1121 get's it's feet wet

I find it odd that the wings only half fold. If the pivot points were just a little further outboard they'd have been able to fold across the top of the fuselage, like a Sea Hawk did.

 Was there a particular reason for only folding them a bit?

The sum total knowledge about this design to date is the Hawker drawing above, and an entry in the Hawker Day Diary that a US Navy person visited to discuss Naval strike fighter options which is a short time before the drawing is dated. My supposition was this might be related. I doubt that a lot of effort was put into it.
