I don't know if the RAF and RAAF Brand Managers would give me the OK to be able to produce decal sheets of "What if?" aircraft/schemes in "their" markings, I haven't tried. Somehow I doubt it, and besides that its a process that quite frankly kills my imagination. I'm not particularly happy about the fact that if I come up with something "creative" and wish to create a decal sheet for us all to enjoy I first have to get "permission" off my own Air Force in order to be able to do it.

As far as I'm aware the RAF (MOD) branding of the roundel is much more to do with "commercialy undesirable use" - what ever that may be. What I've read would suggest they have no intention to use it to spoil "legitimate" uses ?

I'd still love to see a generic sheet of RAF Squadron crests and bars etc in various styles which we could then use on our own wif's - rather like the recently announced  Zotz "roundels of the world" sheets.

As for the Lightning profiles - hubba hubba       and I don't even like the beast !

Just be thankful that Raddish is ccurrently off line - he'd have an orgasm over the "pink" one.

It seems that we all tend to think alike. Also, I like your idea of doing the 'generic' sheet AND the wif sheets to be a damm good one. Hell, I'd buy them in a heartbeat.

I don't actually think it's to do with that Lance (at least not the RAF) it's more to do with the symbol being used in a way that would besmirch the service/country, by some anarchist group or whatever. Not that I'm against anarchy necessarily

Richard at Gekko Graphics was the guy I approached about doing a sheet of RAAF TSR-2 Eagle markings to go with my RAAF Eagle history backstory. He kindly explained the current legalities of doing them so I dropped the idea, even though I was thinking of commissioning the sheet myself. I appreciate that he took the time to reply and explain.

Trust me, as an ex-serving member of the RAAF for 13 years, you cannot believe how screwed up I think the current situation is......

Great work Richard, I hope I can catch up with you at a model show again soon. (Richard and I are both from Adelaide)

If you can find the time (believe me I know how time consuming this stuff can be) I'd really like you to do some more. What about some North African F.6's??

Or, again if you've got the time, we could both individually work on an F.6 or two based on a suggestion by a third party? Just to see what our individual creativeness can come up with and compare on this site?

Just a suggestion, but I think it would be fun, and I know a lot of people here would enjoy the show too. What do you think??

actually, after having a good look around this site (and still looking btw) I have re-found my enthusiasm for 'What if' subjects, a subject that has always been dear to my heart, and am starting to re-think the TSR.2 thing, possibly integrating it in with some other possible subjects as well.

In fact I'm going to contact a guy today who may have some good TSR.2 drawings, if he does then you may well start to see some here!?

It would be great to catch-up with you at the Hobby Expo in Adelaide too!

Richard, the best TSR-2 drawings are the ones in the February 1985 edition of Scale Models International.

Their are scanned online versions of them available around, I am sure someone can "help you out"...

My RAAF Eagle backstory is in the TSR-2 section of this baord if you have not seen it.

cheers Richard, time permitting I'm up for doing more profiles, did the original Lightning ones a couple of years ago, along with a whole host of AH-56 Cheyenne helicopter profiles which are now lost forever  

as with anything like this, get some good line drawings & anything's possible

mine were scanned from the Warpaint book, then Photoshopped. Not print quality but good enough for looking at on a monitor to get an idea for which schemes work & which ones don't
