...I saw both teams fly in the UK in the 70s, and the one thing that stood out was that they were LOUD!...

You could exploit that "Pink Faireys" name a number of other ways too, and either make the colour deliberate or accidental (wrong formula of red paint faded in the sun/washed out in the rain etc...). Fairey Flycatchers or Foxes pre-war. FD.1s (if there was some reason to build enough of them) or FD.2s (if it got productionized as a fighter instead of the Lightning).  An RN ASW-squadron team with Fairey Fireflies in the immediate post-war era, followed by Gannets.

I'm rather vainly trying to imagine a formation loop by a Gannet AEW3 4 ship, and it's not looking good!

Slight tangent, but I've always had this glorious vision of the Blue Angels' nine Convair Pogos doing a formation vertical take-off with perfectly rolls at 100 feet.

I have a couple of KP Pogos still in The Loft too. 

I have three - one KP and two Mistercraft (which are the KP moulds).

I should make an effort to get decals for them: Blue Angels Skyhawks should be about right.

I can supply a set of A4 Blue Angels decals if that helps.
