The concept with that is the Phantom never really takes off and other aircraft never reach their potential so the Voodoo soldiers on into the 90s. New gun, LEXs, J-79 engines, Phantom wing pylons and whatever else I think of gets added on. F-15 style paint on this one so no big delay here other than no time these days for much model building.

I did add winglets to the racer last night.

Here's a rundown on the very interesting suggestions so far from this and other sites:

BSG
ST Naboo/royal yacht
retro NMF with stripes/cheat lines etc
SR-71 black
Gold
Lilo and Stitch
Luft or US '46/'52
Air speed record attempt
Tamiya British racing green
battered and weathered racer
NASCAR or Formula I
Reno Air races

Not quite sure what to make of it all yet but it is reviving my enthusiasm for this project.

What comes to mind to me, is a Retro US Army Air Corps Scheme of Blue Fusalage and Yellow Wings and Stabilzer also having the Retro Stripe markings, with modern/future full color USAF Markings.

Basically a racer.
"Mind that bus." "What bus?" *SPLAT!*

Don't forget the red stripes on the rudder!
Either that or OD green over grey with invasion stripes.

I'd second gold - with bold flashes of a contrasting plain (non-metallic) colour. There are some great airbrushed shiny metallic finishes around. Tip: the shiny is all in the undercoat: a beautiful shiny gloss black base is essential.

Mind you, once you have that shiny black base you might suddenly feel lazy....
Cheers.

Thanks for the tip about the black under coat. It will take a couple coats of primer to work out any defects. I have a 50s movie rocket in the works that will definitely get a NMF. This will help.

Well at least I've made one decision lately. Thanks to nighthunter I'm going with a blue fuselage with yellow wings, a throw back to USAAC days backn in the 30s. I found some P-40 decals in the stash that will work perfectly. I'll use the white star on blue circle with the red dot in the middle for insignia with a red and white striped rudder. Now if Santa will bring me the time to do it!
