Time waits for no man, including me, apparently.
Loads at work. Some fun, some less so, but on the plus side, I've been offered another contract in my little advisory and that by a rather reputable player in the market. Nice. I do wonder where I'll find the time resource, though..

On the other side - the kids are out of school for the season, possibly limiting the need for logistic support somewhat. That should help. Even more helpful would have been if the eldest had passed her driving exams last week. Not to complain  too much however, but one could possibly argue about the reason for that as she, during exams, was rather viciously forced out of lane by a middle aged someone in a white Nissan. From what I heard, even I, having almost forty years of driving experience, would have found that situation a bit hairy. And a new exam will cost her another £160, corresponding. Not easy money for a student.

Worse still is however that the exam slots are in high demand, the next available slot within our county/province appearing in late July. That would mean continuous logistic support, basically on an everyday basis until then as she's a seasonal worker at a restaurant out in the sticks, but through persistent searching and some stubborn resolve, we managed to dig up another slot next week. However some five and a half hours away. But rather drive her there than having to drive her to and fro every bloody day..
She'd better sort this exam, though.

Possibly threatening one or another forum rule, the world seems hellbent on going tits up. The American rule is descending into absolute tyranny in a pace I actually thought impossible, and I fear the time to oppose the change in a reasonably peaceful way has passed. What's left now is a civil war democracy probably is bound to lose, leaving the American people in the same spot where you found the Germans back in the late thirties. Far from all agree with the fascists, but as they are forced to cooperate, they will be collectively seen as guilty once this comes to an end. Provided the human race doesn't expire first, which, given the development in the Middle East, is even more likely today than last week.
Even more scary to me is the tendency to not seeing the development from within. My oh so lovely niece who's living with her bloke in LA still believes the federalists can't overrule the local government even as they see armoured vehicles on the streets. I find that exceedingly naive and devastatingly sad. There's so many good and nice people being caught up in this.

At home, summer is here and that's at least some kind of comfort. We're trying to spend as much time as we can in our archipelago cottage, but still, work requires my better half to attend too many meetings to make a more continuous stay possible. Hence, weekends are precious.
The only real downside is that I keep the major share of my modelling gear at home, effectively resulting in no real plastic time at all, but then again, sooner or later I'll find some time for that too.

In the meantime, I've rediscovered the Merlin Bird ID app on my phone, now lustfully eavesdropping on any and all birdsong I get across. The amount of species shouting in the late evenings and early mornings is really fascinating, and while there are a few somewhat rare bird here as well, I find it more fascinating still that some of the more common birds I hear wasn't the ones I thought them to be. Learning is cool!

Well, today's to be a rather warm day. Maybe I'll finally launch one of the boats to start the sailing season. That'll mean even less modelling time, of course, but so be it. Summer up here is despairingly short, so one should use it wisely.
Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition!

Good to see you back, Mr P.

Summer and weekends are to be used wisely, as you say, and we should enjoy what we can, while we can...

Sadly, I agree with you about the direction the US and other countries are heading in - we keep thinking it'll not be too bad for us here in the South Pacific, but we are a part of the global economy and etc, so that's naïve too... and if someone sees us as not 'on their side', well - there's not much we can do if that someone lobs something transonic our way.
:-\

It sucks, but depending on your point of view, there is the belief of something better on the other side.

Build 'em all and build 'em fast.

But there is the good news that Number One Daughter has an earlier opportunity to re-sit her practical test.

Good news about the contract offer  It's nice to be wanted.

Your schools have a long summer break ? Ours break up end of July, although colleges are earlier, and please, please be careful with the politics.

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

True that.

And sorry, Chris.

Perhaps us northeners want to make full use of the warmer months for a summer break. I don't have current dates handy but traditionally, for Finland, it has been from the beginning of June to mid August.

I think your right. From memory, Gondor can confirm, Scottish schools have a longer summer break than those in England.
