Gary,

QuoteImagine if you could use lcd high def flat screens for floors and project everthing in actual scale beneath the feet of the passangers. Spooky!

I don't think people would like it - people who don't like flying and little kids would complain big time.  Not to mention, someone would complain that people would be looking into thier back yardsetc - crazy, but logic never enters some legal cases.

Greg

Folks,

Back in the early 80's American Airlines thought they had a real cool feature that would be sure to attract lots of favorable comments from their passengers - they mounted a small camera under the plane and televised the images of the plane as it went through its takeoff roll and gear retraction.  I'd seen Air Force documentary footage of similar things and always thought that was cool.

Too many of American's passengers complained of the images making them airsick / scared so the airline cannned the whole thing.

/sigh/

And so it goes....

Wherever you go, there you are!

Gary

Sigh. It would be kinda neat just the same to have all your environment in the cabin covered with screens to give you the impression of flight. Kinda like Wonder Woman's invisible jet. Hey, here's a thought, if she's in flight in the invisible jet and has to take a dump, does she go to her invisible washroom? That just brings disturbing ideas to my head.

Too bad she didn't have an invisible costume too.

Ok, total hijack, but just look at her!

BTW, are there any more detailed drawings or 3/4 views of the triple Vic 10? I'm a tad unsure of how the engines would be mounted.

Geeze I wanna build this thing.

There's a multi camera system called 'Airshow' and has a number of small cameras fiited to the ac.. usually one on the tail, one underneath and forward and one looking back at the wheels underneath...great fun scrolling thro the different view points..

Widespread on business jets...

Actually "Airshow" is a general passenger info/moving map/entertainment system that has been around since 1982...the cameras are actually part of the Inflight Intertainment system,  Airshow interfaces with the IFE system to feed info to the overhead or seat displays.

I worked with both Airshow and landscape cameras while in 747-400 Interiors/IFE Electrical Design at Boeing and IFE retrofits at Panasonic Avionics Corporation (formerly known as Matsushita Avionics System). Panasonic currently has around 80% of the IFE retrofit market. I'm currently working in the Interiors Group for the 787 and I am working the wiring installation design for the Video Control Stations and the airframe interfaces for both the Thales and Panasonic systems.
