AK True Metal paste, success at last?

Some of you may recall me saying that I was having some trouble with this stuff. Might have figured it out, at least partly. On previous models I was applying it gently with a cotton swab, and buffing it the same way. Not the way to go, it seems.

From a long unseen drawer came a partially completed DH Airfix Comet, warts anbd everything, and I decided to get cracking on a RW build. Black on the undersides as a base, and then the AK paste over top, and buffed with a good amount of pressure using a 'shop towel', not sure if that description is the same in other countries. Basically a very strong paper towel, usually coloured a medium blue, for strong jobs and industrial type cleaning. And it buffs up very nicely that way, leaving a sheen that doesn't seem to be rubbing off on my fingers.

Used to call that Elephant Bog Paper when I was in the RAF because of the size of the roll

I agree about the nice finish you can get with this material but, it certainly doesn't like being masked over which, is a problem if wanting a multi toned finish.. It's not very durable .
Hates rivet counters! Eats JMNs for breakfast!

Basically the same as Rub 'N Buff, which is powdered metal carried in a soft wax.

It's a very old type of finishing compound, gilding wax, despite Amaco claiming that
Rub 'N Buff, which they introduced in the 1960s, is the "original".

Rub 'n Buff seems to work better, but can't get it in Canada now.

Okay, thanks, but I refuse to deal with Amazon, so that's probably why I disregarded it in web searches. Might try to pick some up if I nip across the border, it's only a couple of hours away.
