Just a quick shot of the 1154 RAF after an initial coat of primer. Will touch up where needed and sort out the cockpit so i can spray the 1154 & 1121 the same time as they both have the same colour scheme.

Try and get more shots done later.

QuoteI take it that the smaller rocket deelies are the IRBMs for that TSR2 I cast you?

Give that man a prize !!! - LOL - well me & martin wondered how many minutes it would take to spot them for what they are. Yes thay are the IRBM and one shall be going in the bomb bay of the TSR-2. The other is a clone for you know what.

The 1121 U/C wasn't too bad. Just not a great deal of tail clearance might have been wiser if they had incresed the length of the main undercarriage to give a better ground clearance especiallt with a centre line pylon/recessed bay option.

I thought they were a pair of primered .303s !

Looking good, Geoff !

Man, I love that 1154....wish I could get some in 350th scale ! Still thinking about trying to mod. one, and then cast a bunch.

Keep up the great work !

Lookin' good!  I like the early Harrier nose.  That's SOOO much better than what the kit provides.  Will have to go that route.

Keep it rolling Thorvic!

Hi Brad

Actually its only an Airfix GR-3 canopy with the end trimmed off and the cockpit sides built up to match the Canopy. Much more like the RAF 1154 than the kit instructions (Although the plan views do show this feature).

A tidy up in places and i shall look at getting it painted over this Holiday Weekend, along with its 1121 partner.

Hi Brad

The fun part is finding a canopy to match the width of the 1154 nose. Its nose is a bit squarer than a Harriers thats why i only robbed the canopy. I'm looking forward to seeing how the bugger will sit on its U?C as i've borrowed a few harrier bits for that job.

Pardon me if I'm asking a redundant question, but what's the large Hunter-looking thing in the background?  I liiiike that.

Hawker P1121 - Hurricane II. A hawker designe to follow on from the Hunter, Mach 2 capable single engine, single seater. Confirgurable as either a Fighter for the interceptor role using A-A Radar and AA missiles together with rockets fitted to the cheeks (like the Sea Vixen). Or fitted with air to ground avionics and used a Strike aircraft carrying either conventional or Nuclear weapons.

RAF website mention on the 1121 Hurricane

A prototype was privately funded and partially built untill in 57 when the govt stated that it was not interested in the design or a Hunter replacement. The design was thenrefined for the TSR-2 competition by first becoming a twin seater, then enlarged with and using side intakes and twin engines to become the 1125 and finally enlarged again to become the 1129.

The 1121 has often been refered to a British Phantom and would probably have achieved export orders from those ex-Hunter users. In the end we did evetually look at VTOL for a Hunter replacement and ended up with a mixture of Harrier, Jag, Phantom & Buccanner replacing the Hunter, Canberra & Javelin aircraft.

There is a great deal of information on this aircraft in the Project Cancelled book by Derek Wood and in both of Tony Buttlers British Secret Projects volumes.

The kit was built from the Maintrack Project-X kit and is no longer available. However Whirlybird now own the kits and the 1121 is supposed to be being co-produced with Heritage Aviation (the TSR-2 kit maker) to create a Resin version sometime next year or so. The Bristol T-188 is due out next to be followed by the 1154 sometime next year (Martin is busy creating a 1/24th Mosquito from Trevor Snowdens drawings for the aborted Airfix version).

Sweet looking birds Geoff.  I assume you'll be doing articles for both of them? ;)

What sort of articles do you want on them Tony, a build review or a what-if history ?. I'll sort out the Armament & Tanks and do a photo shoot soon.

These are great models. I have just found this site as I am trying to get an accurate 1154RAF model done but the Maintrack kit was a let down. Glad I'm not the only one!

I have original Hawker Siddeley plans with cross sections, and a bit of an obsession with this aircraft. But my modelling skills ossified a few years back. I have offered the plans to Whirlybird for their re-issue, but no response yet. Is anyone interested in these plans sometime (scanner currently kaput) ?

Comments on armament for 1154 can be found on SIG site harrier.hyperlinx.cz under prototypes.
