Panther Pink Panther Plane

Okay, this was my entry for Hawkeye's Think Pink competition for Breast Cancer Awareness month. Thread here:

Basically, I was looking for Pink Panther related inspiration, when I came across a picture of the Pink Panther custom car that used to appear at the start of the TV series:







Remind you of anything? Well it reminded me of the MiG-37 Ferret I had in the stash, so with the help of some Burger King toys purchased off ebay, I came up with this:





It didn't win (and quite right too, given the standard of some of the other entries), but this competition, more than most, was always more about the taking part.

It's actually a lot rougher than it appears in the pics. Some of the paint crackled: it's Plasticote and it's one of those "re-coat with 8 hours or after 36 hours" jobs: I didn't have 36 hours to spare. The paint's also a bit thin in places where the single coat was sprayed in too much of a hurry in bad light. I also dumped a lot of ideas for lack of time, so I may shortly re-visit this and re-build it to a better standard.

Possible mods include:

1. Cut out cockpit coaming and fit small fly screen as per the car.

2. Add side decals in the shape of the car's windows.

3. Replace the undercarriage with two huge hot-rod wheels in the weapon bays in support of which:

4. Make the wings flat by cutting out their lower fuse tabs and replacing them with a proper spar (I never did like the excessive anhedral on the Ferret),

5. Add some interior bulkheads. A full interior would be counter-productive, because the PP figure head to be cut to fit, so it's better that he vanish into a "black hole" than have the fact that he ends at the waist clearly visible,

6. Cut out the solid black block moulded between the Inspector's legs,

7. Paint it properly, add Breast Cancer ribbons on the tails and a trail of panther prints for the Inspector to be following.

Yep, he did a nice job for how fast he put it together.  I look forward to you revisiting it.

As I mentioned in the contest thread, I have the Pink Panther Mobile kit.  It is by Doyusha and had originally be released by Eldon.  Nice kit, little expensive if you find them on eBay but I got a very good deal.

It's brilliant!!!  Now you should set it in a diorama kind of thing with stylized landscape and pink steps on the ground for the inspector to follow...
